Ted Tocks Covers

Mr. Tambourine Man

Originally posted April 14, 2018

On this day 60 years ago, The Byrds’ released their version of ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ on the same day that Bob Dylan released his album ‘Bringing It All Back Home’.

“And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time
Far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees
Out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach
Of crazy sorrow”

At #233 on this list is the beautifully surreal 𝗠𝗿. 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻, the 1965 debut album by #TheByrds,. Unlike their later works, 𝘛𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘯 is primarily an album of love songs (including “I Knew I’d Want You”, a beautiful song I never heard before I listened to this album in full). Only their cover of Dylan’s “Chimes of Freedom” touches on serious issues (the U.S. involvement in Vietnam was only just beginning to ramp up, with 3500 Marines entering Da Nang in March of that year). #music

"Jesus Is Just Alright" is a #gospel song written by American singer Art Reynolds and first recorded by Reynolds' group, The Art Reynolds Singers, for their 1966 album, Tellin' It Like It Is. The song's title makes use of the American slang term "just alright", which during the 1960s was used to describe something that was considered #cool or hip. The song has been #covered by various bands and artists over the years, including #theByrds, #UndergroundSunshine.
