It's not growing season but this Alocacia Cuprea don't care. Enough light and humidity and they'll thrive. This new leaf just opened during a cold snap, so the new greenhouse is keeping it comfy.

Lots of tropicals are soft to the touch, but this is as solid as it looks. The leaves are very hard, as if they were molded plastic.

They have deep violet undersides, too. The other three leaves on this plant (it will lose one, it needs a bigger pot to do more) are facing the other direction.

Meet this gem: a young Heliamphora heterodoxa x minor This hybrid is already showing its signature elegant pitchers.

Watching plants grow is like witnessing a masterpiece in progress—each pitcher designed to thrive in their native environments and captivate the eye. Can’t wait to see it mature into its full glory!

Three years ago when my interest in houseplants took off, I bought an Alocasia Kuching Mask on sale. It was quite small and had a single leaf. It spends summers outside and the rest of the year inside, and it has grown into a giant - and this week it flowered for the first time! I did not expect that!
