Make some chicken lay some eggs with mouse clicks on some <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/XRender" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XRender</span></a> surface.</p><p>Rough roadmap:<br>- Draw some chicken and eggs, probably as SVG?<br>- Reuse code from <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Xmoji" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Xmoji</span></a>, add special widget supporting some "layered canvas"<br>- Implement game logic<br>- Add sound? Несерьёзный Выдумщик<p>Про миграцию на Wayland.<br>Последние пару лет у меня Xorg оставался на машинах из-за Simple Desktop Display Manager (SDDM). <br>Несколько месяцев назад <a class="hashtag" href="https://idealists.su/tag/sddm" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SDDM</a> таки ушёл на <a class="hashtag" href="https://idealists.su/tag/wayland" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Wayland</a> и больше <a class="hashtag" href="https://idealists.su/tag/xorg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Xorg</a> не используется, можно удалять.</p><ul><li>Пару лет назад претензии к Wayland были, но скорее к его поддержке окружениями и софтом.</li><li>С год назад почти не осталось нареканий к работе десктопов с Wayland, что не могло напрямую с ним работать, то вращалось через его Xwayland.</li><li>Последние же месяцы поддержка и переход софта состоялись в полном объёме.</li></ul><p>Если что-то из софта потеряло функциональность, вынужденно работая через <a class="hashtag" href="https://idealists.su/tag/xwayland" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Xwayland</a> на тех системах, где нет Xorg, то в этом софте ментейнеры довольно быстро реализовал поддержку Wayland.<br>Однако, пошло это лишь тогда, когда дистрибутивы стали использовать Wayland в качестве основного GUI-сервера.</p><p>Не фанат Wayland, просто <a class="hashtag" href="https://idealists.su/tag/x11" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#X11</a> сам по себе и Xorg крайне небезопасны и категорически не способны сделать безопасный десктоп для пользователя. А потому и неизбежен переход на Wayland, альтернатив нет.</p><p>И в тоже время, комично наблюдать как толпы жалуются, что якобы Wayland плохой\сырой и т.д. так и не вкурив, о необходимости переключать софт на работу с ним.</p><p>Например, можно в <code>/etc/environment</code> вставить:</p><pre><code>QT_WAYLAND_TEXT_INPUT_PROTOCOL=zwp_text_input_v2 MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 QT_QPA_PLATFORM="wayland;xcb" SDL_VIDEODRIVER="wayland,x11" </code></pre><p>Перезагрузиться и тогда уже составлять впечталение о работе десктопа с Wayland’ом.</p><p><a class="hashtag" href="https://idealists.su/tag/linux" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#linux</a> <span class="h-card"><a class="u-url mention" href="https://mastodon.social/@russian_mastodon" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>russian_mastodon</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a class="u-url mention" href="https://lor.sh/@ru" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>ru</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a class="u-url mention" href="https://3zi.ru/@Russia" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Russia</span></a></span></p>

It's still my only choice for desktop.</p><p>What surprises me, though, is how some distros can keep it running super smooth, while others seem to have this problem at every few updates or so (it gets fixed, just to break again a few weeks later).</p><p>I guess this is smell of its unmaintainability - you fix something, but break another in the process. :S</p>

I disabled my display manager and my T460s (named sneezy) will directly boot into the console. No X anymore! Hopefully more than one person (me) will partake in this challenge :). But maybe some people will also participate. Would be cool to read other people's experiences in the <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.envs.net/tag/console" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#console</a>.<br><br>I know there are lots of people who have a Console only setup, but for me it's new. Debian 12 (bookworm) has been released in June 2023. After 14 years it is still not able to properly see and activate a secondary display attached on HDMI on fly (among other silly issues).</p><p>Of course, no such problems with <a href="https://floss.social/tags/xorg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xorg</span></a> </p><p>How to move forward to return back, a quite common pattern in IT.</p>

It would be great if Cryptomator some day becomes Wayland native.

Currently it only supports Xorg and that hasn't got the security I need.

So for now I will continue to create LUKS vaults and upload them to the cloud.
One downside is that I have to decide the size of the vault beforehand.
Another downside is that I can only open the vault on Linux.

But I'm pretty confident in the security it provides.
