I'm watching #Lucy again (nth time) and I realised something I didn't before.
All our #scifi about man becoming very intelligent and/or “accessing more of our brain capability” leads to us losing our emotions and turn robotic. Like in #Fringe (remember Season 05).
Another example is in #StarGate, not humans exactly, but the Asgard hinted that they once were like humans, full of emotions. However, when they reached their current level of intelligence and brain processing, it all went away.

Maybe we can say the same with #StarTrek's Vulcans?
This makes me wonder. If this assumption is on the right path, are humans that act more robotic are perhaps those who are highly intelligent or possesses a higher level of brain processing?
Could they be the so-called “next step in human evolution”? We just misunderstood them? And because of this misunderstanding, discrimination, cruel society, instead of them being able to nurture it for the good, it's either wasted or used for “evil”?
To quote #Lucy: “Without time, we don't exist.” And the professor: “Time is unity”.
(PS This is not about AI.)

That seems to go against the work of António Damásio - emotions are central components of cognitive processing and intelligent decision making.
Him?

I need to read and watch him. Thank you for mentioning him!

Yes, it's what I think as well; and I think Star Trek's human and vulcan comparison depicted it well. I think even in StarGate where their Asgard friend once said that only humans can solve the problems of the universe.
Emotions give us a different perspective, and it balances our decisions.
And I think even in Fringe, they showed how bad it will be for us humans to not have emotions.
Yet, it's weird how it's usually, if not often, depicted that our to achieve our “next level”, we have to let go of our emotions. Otherwise, we'll be stuck where we are now.
Unless, the writers only want to use these to emphasised how emotions are part of being human. And how, intelligence isn't everything to make us great and survive as a species.
Hmm…
