Sisyphus with a Hat

Crossbedded sandstones (mostly) of the Minnaun Formation at Ceide Fields, Mayo, Ireland. The formation is Carboniferous in age.

The photo shows a vertical sea cliff that contains many flat lying layers, ranging from green to beige-grey to dark grey. If you look closer, many of these display crossbedding, that is, bedding formed as the sediment was set down over flat lying ripples. The sea below the cliff us calm and blue-green-grey, while bright lime green grass is at the top on a rather flat landscape.
