Good morning Fedi friends!
I would love to get your feedback about something.
The next #Fediverse software I plan to write about for #TheFutureIsFederated is #PeerTube.
But instead of doing a SUPER long post about it, maybe I could do a 2 part series:
1) How to sign up, onboarding process, first impressions
2) A follow-up post / overview after 2+ weeks of use
I've been thinking of doing things differently for newcomers on the Fediverse, addressing things from their POV.
Thoughts?
@_elena It's a great idea!
Maybe you can add for #1 item, a bit of introduction (non-techy, maybe a comparison to something everyone is familiar with), and why they should use it (versus "why they should migrate", the word "migrate" sets off a different tone and message to ordinary folks).
Then later, at the conclusion part (#2 item) go back to "why they should use it".
@youronlyone that's a great suggetion, thank you!
I keep reminding myself that I should approach any platform from the POV of someone who knows nothing about it. And I should add, not take for granted the concepts of the Fediverse and ActivityPub in this context
@_elena Yep! We all do, or maybe many of us, often explain things in a techie way. I guess our brains are wired that way, and makes it harder to explain in layman's terms.
In another thread, someone asked, "how it works _for me_", I think the user is thinking about the benefits as a non-techie. Someone who only wants to use social media to connect, follow people, and interact. A good question from the user though.
