#USSupremeCourt: Unprecedented ruling against Trump
The regular #jokers dissented. #Fundamental #rights and due process mean nothing to them.

#SCOTUS moved with urgency late last night, intervening in the Alien Enemies Act cases and blocking #deportations. It appears that a majority on the court finally figured out they were being "played" by the govt who seems to have been moving detainees around to avoid court orders and giving the detainees less than full access to due process.
#Thomas and #Alito, the leading sociopaths on the court, dissented ... of course.

Hello all! I am part of Voidstar’s massive project, Solidarity Compilation, where all the proceeds will go to the ACLU in order to fight the orange brownshirt agenda! My own songs are on Phase I, but check out the whole thing, its a real kalaidescope of different music …
Supreme Court blocks, for now, new deportations under 18th century wartime law
In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in the Bluebonnet Detention Center “until further order of this court.”

@emptywheel.bsky.social Proud supporter of #ACLU!
Among those at the Bluebonnet detention center that the #ACLU is seeking to protect from #deportation is a 19-year-old known as Y.S.M.
Y.S.M., court papers say, was arrested by #immigration agents on March 14 & was sent to the Bluebonnet facility this week. When the agents initially questioned him, court papers say, they told him that a photograph on Facebook showing him in the presence of another person holding a gun proved he was a member of Tren de Aragua.
This latest iteration of the fight over the use of the #AlienEnemiesAct began on Wednesday when the #ACLU filed suit in Abilene on behalf of 2 #Venezuelan immigrants being held at the Bluebonnet facility, asking Judge Hendrix to shield them against #deportation. But the judge denied the request, largely because lawyers for the #DOJ told him that the men — known only by their initials, A.A.R.P. & W.M.M. — had not yet been scheduled for removal from the country.
The #ACLU, hoping to come up with a system for determining where those people might be, has asked a federal judge in Washington to issue a nationwide order forcing the govt to provide 30 days’ notice to anyone in the country before officials seek to remove them under the #AlienEnemiesAct.
The efforts by groups like the #ACLU to stop #deportations under the #AlienEnemiesAct were complicated this month by a #SCOTUS ruling that found that anyone subject to the statute needed to be given the opportunity to challenge their removal, but only in the places where they were being detained.
The decision by the justices set off a hunt for anyone who might fall under the authority of #Trump’s proclamation.
When Judge Hendrix did not grant their request quickly — & later rejected it entirely — the #ACLU lawyers filed a similar request to the US Court of Appeals for the #FifthCircuit in New Orleans.
The lawyers then filed an emergency petition to #SCOTUS, asking the justices to step in & issue an immediate pause on any #deportations because many of the #Venezuelan men had “already been loaded on to buses, presumably headed to the airport.”
#ACLU attys started w/an emergency filing in Federal Dist Court in Abilene, #Texas, in which they claimed that officers at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson had started distributing notices to #Venezuelan immigrants informing them that they could face #deportation as soon as Fri night.
They asked Judge Hendrix, who is overseeing the case, to issue an immediate order protecting all immigrants in the Northern District of TX who might face deportation under the #AlienEnemiesAct.
More than 50 #Venezuelans were scheduled to be flown out of the country — presumably to #ElSalvador — from an #immigration detention center in Anson, Texas. The #ACLU in recent days had already secured court orders barring similar deportations under the #law, the #AlienEnemiesAct, in other places including New York, Denver & Brownsville, Texas.
The situation in Anson was urgent enough that ACLU lawyers mounted challenges in 3 different courts within 5 hours on Friday.
#SCOTUS, for Now, Blocks #Deportations of #Venezuelan Immigrants
Justices #ClarenceThomas & Samuel #Alito dissented.
Lawyers for the #ACLU, saying that a new group of Venezuelan men had been “loaded on to buses, presumably headed to the airport,” filed an emergency petition to SCOTUS, asking the justices to step in & issue an immediate pause on any deportations under a wartime powers #law the #Trump admin has been using to try to expel them.
ACLU warns hundreds of Venezuelans face immediate deportation under Alien Enemies Act despite Supreme Court decision
"ACLU lawyer Lee Gelernt told NPR that migrants at the Bluebonnet Detention Facility in Anson, Texas in the far northern end of the state were being loaded onto buses for removal late Friday.
"This came despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that found the Trump administration could continue deporting under the act — only if detainees are given due process to challenge their removal."
trump is truly stepping into dictatorial territory by defying the order of a federal judge and now defying two orders from the supreme court. who will stop him??
