The Opening Arguments Poscast #1141 - Are Republican AGs really trying to have some of the most important federal protections for disability rights declared unconstitutional? Attorney Jenessa Seymour joins to explain the history and purpose of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the pending challenge to a Biden-era regulatory update intended to protect trans health care rights.

A Texas lawsuit including 17 red States is attempting to remove Section 504, a critical disability protection

“It prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs & activities that receive federal funding”

If successful this will be a major blow to disabled rights, accessibility & autonomy

The lawsuit appears to be rooted in transphobia as well, using it as a way to target trans AND disabled people at the same time.

Crooks and Liars · DoJ Waives ADA Regulations 'To Help With Cost Of Living'By Susie Madrak

Should you use OpenAI (or other closed-source) embeddings?

1. Try the lightest embedding model first
2. If it doesn’t work, try a beefier model and do a blind comparison
3. If you are already using a relatively large model, only then try some blind test against a proprietary model. If you really find it that the closed-source model is better for your application, then go for it.

I had someone say to me today that Republicans will never go after the ADA, and then 30 minutes later while we're still chatting, he gets this news alert.

theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m

And they have the gall to blame high consumer prices on the ADA!!! Oh the poor businesses, they have no choice but to raise prices because of (checks notes) having to make it easier for customers to get in their stores and buy from them.

The Guardian · Justice department removes disability guidelines for US businessesBy Lauren Aratani

Guidelines about accommodating people with disabilities are being scrubbed from the Justice departments website in an effort to … reduce the cost of groceries.

Once again disabled people are targeted because the government assumes no one will speak up for us.

Speak up. We need you.

Spoiler alert… this will not actually lower the cost of groceries. It will lower the quality of life for people like me though!
