I guess final exams? Sometimes, if it's a small class, I would write at the front of the room while they wrote their tests.

She didn't manage to keep a hold of all her stuff. She was abducted in the middle of the night, grabbed what she could, and then slowly lost it all.

I watch a lot of bad TV and think, "I can do better!" And I write. I read a lot of good books and think, "I can do this!" And I write.

I read Catherynne M. Valente, and think, "Holy shit! I cannot do that!" And I do not write.

My protagonist was a child gymnast, and it means she's extremely ready to learn to fight with a sword. It's a whole thing. The rest of her friends have to learn, too, but they're not great at it.

Write on paper. Write scenes as separate little units. Put scenes in file folders. Rearrange scenes in folders and fill in missing ones as necessary.

They all make Maxwell swords: a zone of intense heat created by drawing in all the hot particles and pushing out all the cold ones (with telekinesis, naturally). I did belatedly realize I totally forgot to account for radiation... and I'm ignoring it.
