In unserem Weekly-Podcast stellen wir immer ein Buch/Film/Doku/Serie/Podcast als "Tipp der Woche" vor. Diesmal ist es Carl Sagans Werk "The demon-haunted World".

Fun fact: #Pi plays a large role in the #book "Contact" by #CarlSagan.
(the book is better than the movie tho I adore Jodie Foster.)
The Time We Asked Carl Sagan to Nuke the Moon
Did you know we're essentially all #STARS? That is to say, we’re actually the children of stars!
How does it feel to have stars for parents?

(You can skip to the last paragraph :)
"... when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.”

Book of the Week: The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan
Rather than writing a traditional comment / review, I’d prefer to let Sagan’s own words speak for themselves. One particular passage stands out—not only for its brilliance but for how eerily prophetic it now seems. (Image )
Sagan published this book in 1995.

According to #CarlSagan, "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.". This quote essentially means that to truly create something from the very beginning, you need to understand and consider all the fundamental elements that make it up, which in this analogy, extends to the creation of the entire universe to make an apple pie from scratch
If you are ever wanting something good to watch, The Royal Institute’s youtube page has a large array of information, right down to Carl Sagan lectures from 1977. Well worth checking out.

It's #RandomActsOfKindnessDay. I shared #CarlSagan's #PaleBlueDot video last year. Sagan's message seems even more relevant in 2025! #earth #humanity #noplanetb

Re-reading Carl Sagan’s The Demon-Haunted World—a masterful defence of science, scepticism, and democracy.
More relevant than ever in an age of misinformation.
If more people embraced his message, we’d have less paranoia, less blind faith, and a world driven by reason, curiosity, and open inquiry.

Happy 35th Anniversary to the image that forever shifted our perspective. And thank you, #CarlSagan. The #PaleBlueDot reminds us of our shared fragility and unity on this tiny speck suspended in a sunbeam. I’ll never tire of sharing this vision of humility and hope, until we truly grasp its meaning.
