Wow.

A huge, huge thank you to Romina Muse and IATEFL YLTSIG for the review of Existence in their TEYLT Worldwide Issue 1, 2025. I'm absolutely blown away by the review. Below is just a small section of the review, but in all honesty, any part of it would've been just as appropriate.

I'd thoroughly suggest getting hold of a copy, not just for the review of Existence, but also for the amazing review of Harry Waters book by Teresa Bestwick.

If, as Romina suggests, you'd like to purchase Existence, digital copies are available from my website, or physical copies can be bought from The Bournemouth English Book Centre (BEBC), online or at the IATEFL conference (where you can also buy Harry's book!).

I've also got an open letter to the ELT industry, which you can read here: openletter.earth/an-open-lette

YOU!

Yes, you!
Have you signed, verified and shared the open letter to the ELT industry on representation of LGBTQIA+ identities?

The numbers are now just over 300 signatures, with fewer verified.
If you believe that LGBTQIA+ identities deserve to represented in ELT materials, then please do sign, verify and share.

If you have already signed, please do share – around 300 signatures will have a much wider network than just me on my own.

Takes a very broad view of what so-called "ai" means and does incorporate some claims without needed interrogation (e.g. "offer help in writing in any format with a vast vocabulary" what does help *writing* mean here? The act of writing, or producing text?) The Research Gaps section is useful.

OK, exciting news …

My LGBTQIA+ English language resource book is going to be stocked by an English language bookshop here in the UK.

It’s a self-published book, with eight lessons inclusive of LGBTQIA+ identities.

As far as I know, it’s the only such resource book in ELT in Existence. And it’s called Existence.

There's a new piece on the I am not a taboo! blog!

'A coming out story from a mother's perspective' has been written by Amanda Croft of AC English Coaching to foster discussion of the story themes and what it means to be true to yourself.

Have a look at the questions at the end of the story and let us know what you think.

I am not a taboo - · A coming out story from a mother’s perspective -Amanda Croft, of AC English Coaching, provides a story for use in the English language classroom.

ELT is not representative of all identities.

LGBTQIA+ identities are human identities, along with race, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, Global South, and more, many of which intersect.

Without allies and people coming together to collectively speak up, there will be no change. Individuals working on their own may make a big noise, but are very unlikely to make an impact when it comes to inclusion.

The open letter is just one way to show solidarity, so here's what you can do:
- sign the letter (and don't forget to verify your email)
- share the letter, particularly in ELT/ESOL/EFL circles and groups (I'm no longer on Facebook or Instagram, so can't share there directly)
- if you have a newsletter, or mailing list, I'd be most grateful if you'd share the link there
- if you'd like me (Peter) to write something for a blog, a newsletter or an online (or print) publication, get in contact at admin@iamnotataboo.com

Thank you to those who have seen, signed and shared the open letter to the ELT industry. There are now 170 signatures with 9 without verification.

For me, it's vitally important that the LGBTQIA+ ELT community come together along with our allies in the industry to show that representation matters.
Have you signed and shared yet?

openletter.earth/an-open-lette

I shared the open letter to the ELT industry at the start of the week, and it now has 140 signatures (although only 135 are email verified – don't forget to do this!).

The serious message here is that the #LGBTQIA community exists and deserves to be represented.

So, have you signed and shared?

Thank you to those who have already signed and shared the open letter to the ELT industry on representing LGBTQIA+ identities.

In just a few days, we're almost at 100 signatures!

Have you read, signed and shared?

It should be open to anyone in ELT, ESOL, EFL as professionals or learners; anyone in education who wants to see better representation; and anyone from the community who didn't see themselves represented in their own educational experience.

Many of you know about @iamnotataboo and what I'm trying to do with it.

So, for Day 17 of #LGBTQPlusHistoryMonth, I'm sharing an open letter to the ELT industry, which you are free to sign if you wish from the link on the page.

Erasure of #LGBTQIA identities in ELT has gone on for far too long.

I am not a taboo - · Open letter to the ELT industry - I am not a tabooThe English Language Teaching (ELT, EFL, ESOL) industry is failing the 2SLGBTQIA+ (hereafter referred to as LGBTQ+ for brevity) community.

It is Day 17 of #LGBTQPlusHistoryMonth.

Today, I'm sharing a new initiative – an open letter to the ELT industry.

It may not do much, but it will be interesting to see if anyone signs it. Published on Valentine's Day, this is the first public sharing of the letter.

🚀 DataTalksClub's Data Engineering Zoomcamp Workshop 1 - dlt pipelines

🎯 This optional workshop introduced us to dlt for easier data loading from/to various sources (e.g. various hosted DBs, APIs, cloud services, etc).

💡 For those who want to follow the XDG spec, you can set "DLT_DATA_DIR=$XDG_DATA_HOME/dlt" to make dlt comply with it.
