#formula1 .. whether or not a driver can handle the RB21 appears to be a lottery.

Perez couldn’t. Lawson looked like he might.. but it quickly became clear that he can’t. Yuki might.. or not.

But if Yuki can’t then they’re no worse off than with Lawson.

Sacking Lawson after two races is brutal, but letting him implode on camera wouldn’t be much nicer.

#formula1 All the outrage at Red Bull is a little over the top. They built a dominant car at the beginning of the ground effect regulations, took it to new heights in 2023 and then found that they ran out of road on further development. They have the oldest wind tunnel, under the budget cap they can’t prevent other teams from poaching their staff and they can’t start from scratch in the last year of the current regulations.. so yeah it’s a tough moment. 1/2

Lawson's F1 axing makes him a scapegoat for wider problems at Red Bull
By Michael Doyle

Liam Lawson has suffered one of the more ruthless axings in Formula 1, and his replacement will need to overcome a temperamental car and a dysfunctional team or be at risk of a similar fate.

ABC News · Red Bull swaps drivers for Japanese Grand Prix, but issues are greater than one man's performanceBy Michael Doyle

My thoughts on the Red Bull Racing driver debacle are that Christian Horner should resign.

This has happened under his leadership. Ultimately, the buck stops with him and the driver scapegoat solution can only be used so many times in a career

Here’s a thought Horner: Maybe you should have promoted Yuki at the end of the 2024 season instead of ignoring him.

Perhaps, work with me here, you could have protected and developed Liam by leaving him in the junior team for longer instead of promoting him into a car that’s undriveable.

Red Bull just made it official. Yuki will be in the Red Bull seat starting with the Japan GP. Liam will return to Racing Bulls after just two race weekends.

Red Bull management ineptitude is on full display.

I wonder how long they are going to give Yuki, a driver they actively avoided giving this seat to last year, before they swap him for Hadjar.

@tekphloyd Just listened to the whole episode. A poisoned chalice indeed!

(imo) It’s honestly probably the best thing for Liam. Stem the bleeding quickly. Get back in a car he can actually drive, show his talent, put his career back on track by the summer, then have his manager push for a 2026 seat outside of RBR. The alternative would have been, say, 8 races "to get up to speed" but would actually just be Marko and the media doing further psychological damage to him. As bad as it must be for him today, he’s actually dodged a career-ending bullet if he’d been kept on longer. #F1 #Formula1
