Josephine Baker staat weer volop in de belangstelling dankzij de voorstelling ‘Josephine B. – Een leven in revue’. Harm van den Berg (78) interviewde de superster in 1969 als beginnend journalist. In Eelde, of all places.

Josephine Baker and her husband, bandleader Jo Bouillon, adopted twelve children from multiple countries and various ethnicities. Having lived through segregation in America, Baker wanted to assemble a “rainbow tribe” to serve as a living demonstration of unity.

Alongside her husband, she co-authored a children’s book in 1957, “La Tribu Arc-En-Ciel” (The Rainbow Tribe) hoping to promote tolerance and openness toward others. The book was illustrated by Dutch artist Piet Worm.
