"Our University of Southern Maine (USM) students and DJ’s are honoring Black History Month at WMPG. This year’s theme is #BlackResistance. You will hear specially curated playlists from DJ’s. Our students are producing audio which will highlight achievements and contributions, including #PreColonial history plus profiles of contemporary figures recognizing people from politics, education, pop culture, sports and other areas. Featuring stories about #ATribeCalledQuest, #Beyonce, #OtisRedding, #JamesBaldwin, #ToniMorrison, #BadBrains, and #RobertLewis."

[Thread] So, I noticed that #WMPG hasn't made a big deal about #BlackHistoryMonth features like they have in the past. However, #OnTheAir, they have mentioned it a lot! I've managed to catch a few of the Black History month-themed shows, and will be posting set lists and links to the audio archives (which will be available for 5 weeks after airdate). Screenshot is from a past Black History Month web page...

Graphic includes a black fist with the words: Black History Month Black History Month Highlights at WMPG February is Black History month, and with that in mind, WMPG will be broadcasting special shows with featured guest artists and additional on-air content throughout February. This is supplementing our usual programming with the specific focus of highlighting the art, lived experiences, and perspectives of the Black community. How my brain works. I heard a song last week on the radio (#WMPG), but wasn't finding it in the published setlists. I knew it was from the early 70's, and looked up what I remembered about the lyrics, but no luck (lots of similar lyrics). Then I contemplated the vocals -- who did it sound like? Why, Eric Carmen, who sung the song, "All By Myself." So then I looked up Carmen's songs. No luck. But then I saw that Carmen was in a band -- The Raspberries! And sure enough, it was their song! "Let's Pretend" from 1971! Gotta love #Wikipedia for times like this!

So, #WMPG seems to have resolved its website issues (a CAPTCHA trojan), so I feel good about sharing their links again.

This is the show where I heard a lot of revolutionary punk rock (as well as #MoonWalker). This was NOT the usual Blues show that usually is scheduled for that time slot!
