Hopefully your Monday is going better than this poor fish, who seems to be in a bit of a funk. An observation made all the more reasonable by the fact that they only have two clams for company and appear to be swimming over a fish graveyard

A Dionysian Roman mosaic with an eros riding a tiger with a mane. It was found from the House of the Faun, dating to the end of the second century BC. It is one of similar mosaics with felines found in Delos, Pella and Pompeii. The House of the Faun has many exotic mosaics. #MosaicMonday
The ‘Shell Mosaic’ from Fishbourne Roman Palace in West Sussex. Dating from the mid-third century AD, the mosaic depicts two scallop shells either side of the central panel. My own. #MosaicMonday #RomanBritain #RomanArchaeology #Fishbourne
It's the Day of Selene / Luna's Day / #Monday!
"Luna (the Moon) herself has ordained various days in various grades as lucky for work. Shun the fifth: then pale Orcus [Oath] and the Eumenides [Erinyes, Furies] were born."
Virgil, Georgics 1.276

I have had this mosaic previously for #MosaicMonday but this photo by woven.ie is so marvellous I could not resist. The Cave canem mosaic at the entrance of the House of Tragic Poet in Pompeii.
Watch out for those teef! This mosaic detail, largely in black and white but supplemented with a red collar, draws attention to this brave dog whose is keeping guard at the House of the Tragic Poet in Pompeii.

The Antioch mosaics are a group of over 300 mosaics from the 3rd century AD, discovered during archaeological excavations of Antioch (in modern Turkey) between 1932 & 1939 by a consortium of five museums. About half is now at Hatay Archaeology Museum. This one is in the Worcester Museum. #MosaicMonday

This nilotic Roman mosaic is from the House of the Faun, Pompeii. The actual house is from the Samnite period 180 BC, but the decorations seems to be from the time of the First Style, 200-80 BC. The mosaic presents fauna and flora of the Nile. #MosaicMonday
Part of the ‘Great Pavement’ from Woodchester Roman Villa in Gloucestershire. Dating to the 4th century AD, the mosaic fragment is now part of the collections at the British Museum. My own. #MosaicMonday #RomanBritain #RomanArchaeology
A ceremonial parade in honour of Dionysius appears to be unfolding with Silenus being carried by other faithful followers this #MosaicMonday. And it seems the scene may be graced by Dionysius themself in the heroically nude figure to the left.
You can see this replica of the mosaic found at Sparsholt, Hampshire, in the section of the Roman villa found there, which has been reconstructed at Butser Ancient Farm and experimental archaeology site. The villa is based on part of the one found at Sparsholt.
@butserancientfarm is open to the public at weekends between April and October. The original mosaic can be seen in Winchester City Museum.

This mosaic is a classic for a reason! The detail is phenomenal even though much is missing. Detail from the Alexander Mosaic, from the House of the Faun, Pompeii, now held in MAN Napoli.
