#Movies #Film

I just finished streaming the #movie #Thelma (2024) which was named the the best #InterGenerationalFilm by the #AARP during it's #MoviesForGrownUps award show that just aired last night.

#JuneSquibb who plays the lead was nominated for #BestMovieActress but lost to #DemiMoore in #Substance who won that award.

The movie is about a #Senior #Woman who gets scammed on the #Net & takes it's upon herself to get her $ back. There was a gun involved but think of it as the #Beekeeper without any killing. LOL! 😉

It's a delightful movie which portrays the #elderly in a truthful but respectful & amusing light & also speaks to the #intergenerational #wisdom & support that #seniors can provide to the young.

Here's a link to #Wiki's webpage regarding the film: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thelma_(

I'd rate it an 8 out of 10 & just placed an order for the #DVD.

Watch it if & where you can.

After watching the #AARP's 2025 #MoviesForGrownUps Award show, I was also pleased to learned that I had watched almost every movie nominated for an a #GrownUp award (directly or indirectly), excluding TV shows which I do not watch as broadly :

These movies included:

Babygirl
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Gladiator 2
The Last Showgirl
Nickel Boys
The Order
Queer
September 5
The Substance
Super/man: The Christopher Reeve Story
Wicked

The only exceptions were:

Emilia Perez (which I'm going to watch tomorrow)
Hard Truths (which I plan to stream)
Sing Sing (which I'm streaming now)
Thelma (that I just streamed)

I've watched many other movies than these in the past year but I view the fact that I've watch so many of them mentioned on AARP's MFGU award show as a measure the quality of the movies that I choose to watch. 😎

I just watched the #AARP's annual #MoviesForGrownUps (#MFGU) award show for 2025 on #PBS last night. You can find a list of the winners here:

aarp.org/entertainment/movies-

I always enjoy watching this show because it features the most "grown up" & intelligent movies made during the year. I also like it because the program is more tightly scripted & better organized than other award shows like the #Oscars & #GoldenGlobes.

MFGU winners often differ than those given for the Oscars & Golden Globes & this year I was pleased that they gave the #BestSupportingMovieActress award to #SF's #JoanChen for her performance in #Didi (the independent film about a #ChineseAmerican boy in Fremont in the 80's) produced & directed by #SeanWang who's work was recognized at #Sundance.

Saw Didi at the Elmwood in Berkeley, just received the #DVD. Don't know if it's available to be streamed yet but, if it sounds like something you'd like to see, stream it if you can.
