A quotation from Robert Bolt

MORE: (looks at him: takes him aside: lowered voice) Have I your word, that what we say here is between us and has no existence beyond these walls?
NORFOLK: (impatient) Very well.
MORE: (almost whispering) And if the King should command you to repeat what I have said?
NORFOLK: I should keep my word to you!
MORE: Then what has become of your oath of obedience to the King?
NORFOLK: (indignant) You lay traps for me!
MORE: (now grown calm) No, I show you the times.

Robert Bolt (1924-1995) English dramatist
A Man for All Seasons, play, Act 1 (1960)

So hey when the Klansmen come to town & tell you that you cant celebrate Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, WEB DuBois,

Thats literally their position since time immemorial.

Your decision to comply is what is new.

That is what has changed here.

Dont care if its Jackson Elementary or the Maryland National (Apparently now Confederate) Guard.

"The comments came after Snoop did an interview with the Sunday Times and spoke very highly of the new American president. “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me,” Snoop said. “He’s done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.” The rapper added that he had nothing but “love and respect” for Trump."

Bad Habits, a story of nrefarious doings in a 'closed order'

Clearly influenced by Eco's Name of The Rose this story of disappearances within a closed order is disturbing in it's madness. Good reading for anyone who has ever wondered about religious fundamentalism and challenges to doctrine - with a couple of bodies thrown in for good measure. True religious zealotry and madness in a 'cosy' setting. I don't buy the coveruup.

A quotation from Bolt, Robert:

«
CRANMER: Then the matter is capable of question?
MORE: Certainly.
CRANMER: But that you owe obedience to your King is not capable of question. So weigh a doubt against a certainty — and sign.
MORE: Some men think the Earth is round, others think it flat; it is a matter capable of question. But if it is flat, will the…

There's zero reason for anyone with a functioning brain or heart to ignore or lack sympathy for what is happening in Gaza. Families torn apart (literally), children murdered. Parents murdered. Higher civilian casualty rate than, like, ever. Journalists targeted. Universities & hospitals targeted. The more you learn the more horrific it is.

And half of American Liberals just.. don't care. Don't want to know. Don't want to learn about the tragedies, lest they feel sympathy.

Because some *other* self-proclaimed liberals told them not to.

I don't want to hear any bullshit about liberals being free from ingroup bias, tribalism, peer pressure, conformity, or anything else. Because nothing else can explain why people who claim to stand for justice, against oppression, and beside marginalized people being targeted because of their heritage are doing exactly the opposite.

Everyone knows religious thinking is huge in American circles. I think feel like we're immune.

We absolutely are not. Lots of / groups clearly seem influenced by factors we usually associate with , like group , gaining status through denigration of the Other, , valuing , moral , valuing , judging others by outward clues of , the use of shibboleths and other linguistic cues of righteousness or group membership, and just straight-up and . There's a lot.

I'm not smart enough to write a serious piece about this, yet. Maybe someday. Or, more likely, someone who *is* smart about this stuff has already written it.
