Today's random baking #protip

If you want a shiny, crackly surface to your bread but have a hard/impossible time getting it (like I do, I have a gas oven and it's near-impossible) you can get one with a quick starch glaze. Mix flour and water in a 1:10 mix (1g flour per 10g water), nuke it for a few seconds and stir to properly gelatinize the starch, and brush it on the loaf before scoring and popping it in the oven.

You get a lovely, shiny crust. Mmmm, tasty.

#protip for academics: try singing your own new texts before publishing. If you cannot sing it, don’t publish it. Thank me later.
