Buying cheap is always a risk. Sometimes it works out, other times you end up with a headache.

Bought a cheap set of acrylic quilt templates, turns out one of the pieces as not fully symmetric (the largest one), preventing me from making a proper square of the pieces.

Now I made myself a set of paper templates that are fully symmetric, perhaps that will work better.

To the left, three clear acrylic templates on a black surface. To the right is a sewn test made from those templates. The middle (kind of shaped as a cats iris) and small corners (lower left and upper right) are also black. The remaining space is in a patterned fabric in yellows and orange tones.
Showcasing that the largest piece out of three is not fully symmetric. The black and the blue line should have matched up. I traced them with first side A towards paper and the other with side B towards paper.

This is the first time I’ve used a log cabin pattern. I saw this particular pattern in an issue of QuiltMaker from my mom’s stash. It was made with holiday colors but I wanted something for every day. I love how easy this was and how it turned out. I downsized it from 70in x 85in to 48in x 58in

I’m calling it Wrapped Up because I think it looks like a prettily wrapped present 🎁

Taking a break from political stress reading to iron fabric and plan a baby quilt (request was 'farm themed'). Due to job chaos, I'm following a quilt pattern for this one - it's super cute. Looking forward to appliqué and hopefully doing much if not all of the quilting by hand. Below are fabrics (plus some mustard solid) and the pattern from Ahhh Quilting.

Me explaining why I’m a booster of hand-quilting even though I do not myself make quilts: “Well, my mom and sister are quilters, and my late grandma on Mom’s side, and I was in a youth quilt guild growing up.

“But I mean, I know HOW to quilt. I can contribute if there’s a quilt in a large frame for group quilting. There are a few stitches of mine in plenty of my family’s quilts….

"Thursday After Thunder" teableau for 03/27/25

There was a wild storm last night- momentous lightning, ground-shaking thunder, hard rain- that caught houses on fire & blew out windows. Yet today, it's as if nothing at all occurred, just sedate calm all around. Storms be that way.
