'Young people are leading users of [AI], but many don’t know the limitations or how to use them ethically and responsibly.
That’s why the Poynter Institute’s media literacy initiative MediaWise, in partnership with PBS News Student Reporting Labs, created AI Unlocked, a five-part video series with accompanying lesson plans that breaks down the world of artificial intelligence in ways that teens can comprehend.'

Over 30 years ago, Jerry Seinfeld (played by Jerry Seinfeld) accidentally agreed to wear a puffy shirt on the Today Show by nodding at low-talker. But only now did I realize what fun contracts hypo it is.
Gente, I have found research that explains about 23% of my interactions with students!
"The relationship between tolerance for ambiguity and need for course structure" (DeRoma, Martin, & Kessler, 2003)
Students ponder what AI means for learning. These reflections parallel the results that we are seeing in student work: lots of breadth, little depth, and disconnection from deep structure (historic and theoretical) within a discipline. And then there are the AI hallucinations! https://www.chronicle.com/newsletter/teaching/2025-03-27 #GenAI #AI #learning #education #teaching
I made my Mirror World class some bling out of 6mm glass tubulation. We can all laugh and be shiny together now. I actually didn't make myself one though. I guess I can make it tomorrow. I bent it to my handwriting in cursive with a 6mm sharpie :) . lol happened to be an easy an fun 3 letter phrase that flows nicely.
I sure do love mirroring a bunch of little tubes simultaneously :)
I gotta get a few feet of bright colored silicone or latex tubing. They are meant to be necklaces. They may be fragile during hugs.
Its been nice to teach these classes with Kacie Lees in the evenings and decompress from the hectic week finishing up neon work things ahead of an upcoming midwest road trip! Class and show in Minneapolis and visiting artist 2 day at UW, Madison.
We mirrored so much. Its so fun seeing people get it- and run wild with it.
This is a classic that has popped up many times over the years, with a number of slight variations.
Teacher: Why haven't you submitted any work?
Student: I saw that you never mark anything, so I didn't think I had to.
Teacher:
Although this is a dumpster fire of a day, we did launch our final project of the term in my Intro to Public History class: a project proposing/revising historical markers in our area.
Students got themselves into two groups based around themes of their choice. They'll work to develop their theme into a "big idea" for an alternative historical tour.
Every student will propose a new marker, or a revision to a current marker, and the groups will frame their set of markers as a tour. We'll then create those tours digitally (probably using ArcGIS Story Maps for ease of use).
Sitting in my classroom, watching Mothra v. Godzilla as I finish my lunch. 4 hours to go until break. (Well, sort of. I have some grading to do tomorrow ... at home.) #teaching #teacherlife
I used to teach ICT and Computer Science (in the UK . . . mainly).
This past week I have been working on my new web site.
I've tested it with three different browsers and the basics seem to work (do let me know if there are any broken links or clunky bits).

#teaching at an uni:
yesterday we had a power outage in the lab during a practical course. We checked everything twice, called supervisors, called an electrician. Then I noticed that one of the students had put a cable on a heating plate and it melted
They had the nerve to ask if that meant we wouldn't finish on time.

We have a half day with students today to make up for the late night yesterday for conferences.
One more afternoon of parent conferences before walking out for 10 days to enjoy spring break.
2 more hours to go for parent teacher conferences this evening. I've been fortunate to have some very good conversations with parents, some of which needed to happen, others which were just genuinely pleasant conversations.
Students, in some cases, spend more time with me each week than their parents and that is a responsibility I do not take lightly.

I can't believe I'm actually pissed that I get free time instead of my 8th grade block this morning. I didn't check the schedule and they have puberty ed. I had just started talking about the Iranian Revolution, and I also planned to do part of my 'time change through Star Trek opening titles' lesson. Boooooooo. #teaching
Full day of teaching followed by day 1 of spring parent-teacher conferences. So, today is a 13 hour day, but tomorrow is a half day for students so we can round out grades before spring break.
