Une échasse blanche en train de chercher de la nourriture au fond d’un étang. Sa tête et son long cou ont totalement disparu sous l’eau. Son dos et sa queue sont levés vers le haut, face à l’objectif, on voit bien la forme de coeur créée par la couleur noire de son dos et ses ailes, et la forme en V de la queue. L’eau de l’étang est très calme, miroitante, et d’un bleu ciel clair. Dans le fond, en haut de l’image, on voit le reflet d’une petite bande de terre couverte de végétation rase et de quelques joncs de mer.

🌎 Roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja)

The roseate spoonbill is a striking wading bird, easily identified by its vibrant pink plumage and distinctive spoon-shaped bill. Adults have a bare greenish head, and their pink colouration comes from their diet. They inhabit shallow fresh and coastal waters, ranging from the southeastern U.S. to central Argentina. They feed by sweeping their bills side-to-side in the water, catching small fish, crustaceans, and insects. Often seen in groups, they are social birds. No subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

🌎 Southern lapwing (Vanellus chilensis)

The Southern lapwing is a striking crested wader with a greyish-brown back and head, black and white face markings, and a black breast band. It has a thin black crest and pinkish legs. Found throughout most of South America, and recently extended its range into southern Central America, it favors open grasslands and wetlands. Known for its loud, piercing calls, it's a territorial bird, aggressively defending its nest and young. Red wing spurs are used for this purpose. Four subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

🌍 Northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita)

The northern bald ibis, hermit ibis, or Waldrapp is an endangered, migratory Old World ibis with only around 700 remaining in the wild, primarily in Morocco. It has glossy black plumage, a bald head and face, and a long, curved red bill. These social birds nest in colonies on cliffs and forage in flocks. They feed on insects, small reptiles, and amphibians, using their long bill to probe the ground.

Conservation status: Endangered (IUCN 3.1)

Un groupe de d'oiseaux limicoles en vol rapide. Ils exposent leurs dos et les differences plumages, de taille de bec ou la position des pattes permets de différencier les espèces. Ici il y a des chevaliers arlequins (corps gris, tache blanche sur le dos, long bec et pattes rouges) et des combattants variés (plumage marron et écaillé, bec court et blanc sur la queue)

Le groupe de limicoles qui passe rapidement derrière des spatules blanches.

Lesser yellowlegs wading through calm shallows on the South Saskatchewan river.

The lesser yellowlegs has as the be say, bright yellow legs, quite long. Only a small portion of the legs is visible above the water, which ripples outward from the bird. The reflections are mostly brown vegetation with dappled blue patches that would make an impressionist weep with joy.
