Wybór padł na #Debian12 z #Cinnamon (a na słabszych maszynach #LXDE)

Wiele lat używałem Ubuntu, ale jednak to Debian jest najbardziej elastyczny i nadal ma 32 bitową wersję (a mam jeden komputer który nie ma x64!).

In naher Zukunft, wenn ich mal an einem Wochenende einen Tag Zeit habe, werde ich mal wieder zurück auf #Linux wechseln. Favoriten sind aktuell #UbuntuMate, #Xubuntu und #Mint mit #XFCE oder #Mate Desktop. Wobei #Cinnamon auch einen Versuch wert wäre.

I only use Ceylon #cinnamon (C. verum) because I try to avoid #coumarin, which is poisonous. (You should, too.) In order to authenticate the cinnamon I buy, I am experimenting with ways to detect coumarin at home. This sample is C. burmannii and the fluorescence you see here should be coumarin. In addition, my C. cassia and an el cheapo cinnamon of unknown type (I presume cassia) showed this. My two C. verum samples had nothing.
My attempt was to get the coumarin out with methanol (or I guess you can use cheap moonshine), and drip it on NaOH (drain opener) soaked #Aeropress filters, then dry and illuminate with UV. Am I right here? Anyone? #homelab #chemistry

because #gimp 3.0 looks hideous with the (absolutely outdated) GTK theme I'm using, I wanted to change the system theme...

the issue is, I'm in #DWM on #ArchLinux, and I use the #XFCE bar, so I have the XFCE settings app installed, but the icon theme and gtk theme can not be changed from there.

luckily, I have #Cinnamon also installed, so I can log in there, use the settings app there, and that works.

i used to overdose on #cinnamon too

until i found out it has coumarin in it, which can be toxic (you have to eat a *lot*, nothing to worry much about)

there was also lead contamination scare awhile back, but that's not natural (like lead and cadmium in chocolate)

and i found out that the coumarin content is species dependent

get your hands on ceylon cinnamon

it's coumarin content is dramatically lower than other varieties from china, indonesia, and vietnam

This has been driving me nuts...

In #Windows, to #lock the #screen you do Windows+L.

In #LinuxMint #Cinnamon, Windows+L opens up "Looking Glass".

To lock your screen in LinuxMint you have to do Ctrl+Alt+L.

I'm sure whoever came up with this combination wanted to differentiate LinuxMint from Windows so they picked an entirely different #keyboard #shortcut.

(Except Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, and Ctrl+V all work as you would expect.)

Fortunately, it's pretty easy to change the keyboard shortcuts.

It's just a royal pain in the ass to have to do so.

LinuxMint should have adopted the same shortcut that Windows uses. Especially to make things easier for people that migrate to Mint from Windows.
