@vetgaming @linuxmint It's just a necessity, according to @fuchsiii, as it's just not feasible longterm to collect rarer-and-rarer #VintageComputing hardware and rely on non-enforcement of copyright on #Abandonware.

  • Plus whilst #Valve isn't antragonistic to #Proton / #DXVK repackagings, not relying on them is kinda important, as this setup also helps with otger applications that ain't strictly games or in setups that one may not want to be on the internet.

It makes #TheSims and #FightingIsMagic just work on anything that is #amd64 and has enough resources to throw at it.

Just look at recent performance updates to the #Linux kernel over recent cycles. Almost every Linux kernel improves the gaming software stack to improve performance. Over that same time, software such as #ProtonLinux #DXVK #VKD3D #Wine is updated to improve performance and compatibility.

There is a reason why #Valve and other companies are investing a lot of resources into Linux

(I like the redesigned bottom bar, it was so hard to get it to show in fullscreen mode when I opened it to my external monitor, with the laptop's screen below it, now it's fixed. Also, in the sidebar, length of videos is now displayed correctly, without flowing out of view. The fullscreen launch setting is also cool.)
(Some people complain about a program not being native on a DE but I prefer using Haruna on GNOME over GTK options like Totem or Celluloid because it works much better, and is more flexible. I only needed to set color and icon theme manually in settings so that icons don't have contrast issues.)
