The houseboat “Rumah Saya” is a motor tjalk located at the intersection of Keizersgracht and Amstel. This historic vessel, built in 1893, measures approximately 16.7 meters in length and 3.7 meters in width. ⛵

In Indonesian, rumah saya literally means “my house” (rumah = house, saya = I/my). In Malay, it has the same meaning. 🇮🇩🇲🇾🏠

The houseboat is situated in a prime location, close to the “National Opera”, “Koninklijk Theater Carré”, “Museum De Hermitage”, and the “Magere Brug”. 📸

TFW you're trying not to commit further ableism because you've been using the word "stupid" whenever I'm sharing news about the Palestinian genocide but that's because I have dozens of words for what Zionists are but English apparently only have one. So I guess I'm gonna have to teach anglophones what the hell are tolol, tongong, bengong, mingung, lemah, jahil, otak ayam, bebal, bahlul, goblok, dungu, picik, pandir, singkat etcetcetc

I didn’t know that Sri Lanka has a population of local ‘Malays’ (includes non-Malays, like Javanese folks etc.. just a catch all name for everyone from the Malay world)

This video was super interesting. So cool to see this Ibu-ibu singing traditional Malay songs and then switching quickly back and forth into Sinhalese

Malaysians are blowing up about this iPhone 16 Pro ad because the word sinema is non standard in Malay and the use here in “Karya sinema” is grammatically incorrect — the correct form would be “Karya sinematik”.

In the replies they’re lamenting the loss of the Malay language identity and some are comparing it to Indonesian or saying it’s becoming Indonesian. I noted in the reply that while it’s also non standard grammar in Indonesian, this is common practice.

Folks, this is advertising. Grammar rules often go out the window to catch people’s attention and to create some sort of brand or messaging association. Based on the replies, Apple succeeded in getting people to talk about it. The fact that it got posted on social media means it’s reaching beyond its intended audience. It worked! 😂😂

ThreadsRex Tai (@rex.tai.z.h) on ThreadsKarya sinema? Or Karya Wayang? Our Bahasa Malaysia is getting more and more ridiculous 🤣🤣 My Bm isnt fluent but i dont think this is right 😅

The benefit of knowing multiple languages is …. If the English subtitles are hopeless, you can try other languages to see if it's better. I suspect these Malay subs were made by an actual human while the English subs were made by a bot with a screw loose.

Fyi, yes I can actually watch these without subs, but as this is a costumed drama, sometimes they use archaic words that I don't understand 😅

I should be less lazy and watch it with Chinese subs but I am tired from an intense day of work, ok? 🤣

PS Drama is called “Towards the Truth”, which you can watch via the iQiyi app. It's actually quite good!
