This is the fabulously tiled Centurion bar at Newcastle Central Station - a lost gem for decades! (Look it up.) I always wondered how they cleaned those tiles - that poor guy has the longest hoover extension I've ever seen!

Sitting under the clock at the Central Station on a nippy but sunny first day of spring. It never fails to amaze me that so much history is at my feet here - on top of Hadrian's Wall with the castle at the end of the platform. London bound for big wool show tomorrow!

Finally managed to pass through Newcastle Central when Wobbly Aleways is open.

(Run by the same people as Wobbly Duck, the micropub in Old Eldon Square.)

Didn't have long to browse, but seems like a good mix of local and national breweries, plus a decent selection of European beers. I noticed German lagers and Belgian Trappist beers.

Made a quick choice for train beers (two I've never had) plus a snack…

I’m now down an internet rabbit hole trying to pinpoint the age of it by looking at old city bus photos - I’m wondering if I might be able to find out the route number and then work out the age Look at these beauties! #BusDetective #NewcastleUponTyne

According to the Newcastle Corporation Transport archive this is a 1949-built AEC Regent III bus, shown in front of Newcastle Central Station (railway). The bus roll sign is visible with ‘Throckley’ as the destination ‘via Tyne Bridge’. Similar typeface to my bus roll so I’m thinking it may be mid-1960s

A 1954 Leyland PD2/20 bus shown at what looks like Newcastle Haymarket near where the current Civic Centre stands. The bus blind shows the destination as Denton Burn, again in a similar typeface to the bus blind I acquired. An advert for Hoover is on the side of the bus with styling that matches their mid-1950s ad campaigns.
