US District Judge Royce C. Lamberth has granted Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s request for a temporary restraining order.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty filed suit last week to contest Trump’s shutdown order, claiming it “would violate the Constitution and federal laws.”

A #WhiteHouse plot to axe international broadcasters #RadioFreeEurope / #RadioLiberty has been foiled after presidential advisor #KariLake was forced to rescind a letter cancelling the network’s grants.

It comes just a day after a judge temporarily halted an attempt by the #Trump administration to shut down the station, claiming it would “violate the #Constitution and federal laws.”

Radio Free Europe was for decades symbol of fight against totalitarian regimes in Easter Europe and later also in other parts of the world.

(For brief time I worked for Radio Farda and helped with broadcasting free and balanced news to Iran. Good times.)

Since fascist US governement wants to end this organisation, it should be up to EU to take the lead and start with something like Radio Free America - to repay the debt of cold war.

Einde dreigt voor roemrijk station Radio Free Europe, 'EU moet het redden'

Het wordt het grootste cadeau van Trump aan Poetin genoemd: het stopzetten van de financiering van Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). Met tientallen radio- en tv-zenders en websites doet RFE/RL iets waar talloze regimes al decennia bang voor zijn: de bevolking van onafhankelijke informatie voorzien. Daar dreigt nu rigoureus een einde aan te komen.
