Wide frame. Beach/sand enters from bottom and extends about 4/5 the way up the frame. Bird is high on the upper left side of the frame. A small section of sky is visible above the sand. The image has a very light airy feel. There are bokeh balls in the sand and on some green vegetation in the upper right corner of the frame.

Last week I had a lot of fun hanging out with White Ibis on the beach in Florida experimenting with motion blur to create a different feel.

Wide format image of 4 white Ibis feeding in the ocean surf. It is a bright sunny day with puffy white clouds in the sky. The ocean is a light green color and you can see the blur of the waves crashing on the beach and the surf rolling in. The Ibis are entering the frame from the right and moving left. There is some blur to show movement but the front bird is more defined than the rest.

An American Avocet feeds in the Great Salt Lake early one April morning. This was such a beautiful and peaceful morning with the snow capped mountains in the background. I really need to get back there!

This is a tall vertical frame. An American Avocet is posed in the shallow water of the Great Salt Lake. The bird is in the lower right third of the frame facing left with its bill angled down into the water. The scene is very blue as this was taken early in the morning. There is a reflection in the calm lake water in the foreground and there are blue snow capped peaks in the background.

On the last day of our workshop in Utah this past spring, the sunset was absolutely amazing and the sky was on fire. I love the flow of the composition and how the clouds frame the Avocet. April 2024.

An American avocet poses all alone in the lower right third of the frame. It is sunset and the sky is on fire with yellow, orange and pink tones. The avocet is a silhouette and is facing left and dipping in the water to feed. The horizon is in the lower third of the frame and there is a strong reflection. Orange clouds are crossing from the horizon on the far left to the sky on the right. With the reflection, the clouds form a large arrow pointing to the left, the same direction the bird faces.

Avocet is backlit and mostly silhouetted in the lower right third of the frame. The image has a strong vignette and is very bronze. A strong rim light surrounds the bird and a soft reflection is cast below.

I had a blast with shorebirds this fall! The variations of light, perspective and background I was able to get were incredible. This Sanderling is posing in front of a group of Dunlin roosting in the distance as the sun rose and cast its beautiful golden light.

Picture of rocky beach. Rocks of several sizes are lying in the seawater (German North Sea). On one rock in the center of the picture is (good visible) a seagull standing, looking left.

Solution of the question:

Three birds are in the picture. Besides the gull there are two sandpipers (german: "Strandläufer"), one is sitting right of the center near the lower edge of the picture frame, the second is sitting between two rocks in middle position of the left frame edge, looking to the left. The sandpipers are showing perfect camouflage with same patterns and color scheme as the rocks in the water.

Tidal Pool Runner

I love these images of birds moving across water, they convey action - they're fun. This is a sanderling (Calidris alba) and even though the bird isn't quite in focus, it is enjoyable.
