Resident Alien

Syfy/Netflix - 2/3 seasons (ongoing), 26/34 episodes, 44 minutes each

Marooned on Earth, an alien disguised as a human has to investigate a small town’s murder to maintain his cover.

The vibe the show gives off is if “The X-Files” and “Twin Peaks” had a child that went into comedy to spite its parents.
Incredible funny between bonkers dialogue and a terrific cast; first and foremost a hilarious Alan Tudyk.

Just finished watching the 5-part series, Get Millie Black (Neon). Nominally a standard police drama where the maverick detective breaks all the rules to solve a crime while fighting their own personal demons, this series also deals with racism, colonisation, sexuality, and gender issues with sensitivity and nuance while never shying away from confronting them head on. It has great characters, acting, and a terrific script. Well worth watching.

Daredevil: Born Again is back with a vengeance! The first two episodes deliver gritty action, emotional gut punches, and that signature moral complexity we love.

Finished watching Zero Day (Netflix), a modern-day political thriller featuring Robert De Niro as a former president tasked with finding out who is behind a massive cyber attack on the US. This 6-part series, with the myth of American exceptionalism at its heart, suffers from credibility issues given recent events in Washington, and simply doesn't seem real. Plot holes abound. Still, De Niro is always worth watching, even when playing it safe, as he does here.

3 Body Problem

Netflix - 1 season (ongoing), 8 episodes, 56 minutes each

Starring Eiza González, Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, Liam Cunningham

A group of young scientists find themselves embroiled in a secret plan that will determine the future of mankind.

Solid cast and quality production. Thought-provoking science-fiction ideas but the show can get bogged down in subplots not up to the intelligence of the core concept.
