Speaking of #ThrowbackThursday my phone has been reminding me that's it's now been exactly one year since I ventured into the mountains of #SouthAfrica with my friend @murraylivingston to explore what the landscape there had to offer... To say it has lots of potential is still an understatement 😆

This is a quick video from what I would say was the most incredible evening of #Photography I had last year. A highlight of the trip!

This little bird came to sit with us in the rain at the Hedges Hotel in Northern Ireland. I recently lost my dad and he used to love and care for birds (he had so many finches as pets). My friend softly said, “maybe it’s your dad that wanted to come sit with us for a while.” I choked back tears. I like to think that it was. ❤️‍🩹

Annemarie Schwarzenbach (1908–1942) was a writer, journalist and photographer. Born to a wealthy Swiss family, Schwarzenback moved to Berlin to escape her conservative family. She traveled extensively around the globe - America, Africa, Europe … even traveling by road through the middle-east several times. A final trip to Afghanistan in 1939, was an effort to combat her drug addiction and escape from the political turmoil rising in Europe. Traveling from Geneva with the ethnologist Ella Maillart in a small Ford, they were in Kabul when WWII broke out. These are photographs from her times in the Middle East.
