Semi regular post exorcising my need to say that #DwarfFortress is a heartbreaking work of staggering genius.

Woops. Accidentally played 3.5 hours of #DwarfFortress.

I managed 2 years but I also had enemies off, so I might start a new fortress tomorrow on the same map with enemies on.

In tonight's #DwarfFortress stream, I seem to have annoyed some particularly large local wildlife. Also I need to deal with the negative effects of depression on swimming lessons.

I did the deep stairwell again, but this time I did it in a corner of the map first, to uncover the cave layers. But then as I was extending my actual fort stairways down to elevation -102 where I found the magma sea, I found this little magma pool at -21.

So I now have a magma powered smelter and forge, more or less at the bottom of my main 2x2 fort stairway! And somehow the 19 non-mining dwarves survived while I ignored them to go magma scouting.

Because I am nothing, if not easily influenced, I'm going to try #DwarfFortress

I already have a dwarf Amontillado'd (at least until she finishes mining out the refuse dump area and hallway leading to the stairs)

Digging is a lot more satisfying in #DwarfFortress than it is in #Rimworld

Alright, I've figured out how to get #DwarfFortress running on linux. I just went through the tutorial, and have just started my first fort in about 10 years.
