www.marginalia.nu · Marginalia Search receives second nlnet grantI’m happy and grateful to announce that the Marginalia Search project has been accepted for a second nlnet grant. All the details are not yet finalized, but tentatively the grant will go toward addressing most of the items in the project roadmap for 2025. I’ve already been working full time on the project since summer 2023, and this grant secures additional development time, and extends the runway to a comfortable degree.

I'm a huge proponent of #marginalia so I prefer physical books preferably with wide margins. E-books give you more space for notes, but the way you can take notes in them is very limited compared to good old paper and pen. After physical books, I prefer #audiobooks for lighter reading material, something I can listen to while doing fairly mindless manual tasks like driving or cooking

Finished stuff. First my #Mordheim or #BloodBowl #Medieval #Marginalia. After some highlighting up the garbage contrast paints and finishing the bases i was quite happy.

Second my ancient #BattleMasters ogre for #RangersOfShadowDeep. He's hideous and has five knuckles on his left fist. But he's fun.

Medieval marginalia figures in white metal, all painted to resemble drawings from the margins of manuscripts. They're all set on bases with flowers. There are weirdos such as Smiling Squatting Horned Demon With Befuddled Face On His Tummy, or Happy Bearded Face With Bear Ears Purse On Disembodied Legs, or Massive Head With On Backwards Hooved Legs With Dog Head On Top And Hand Nose Holding Sword, or Belligerent Dog With Shield And Spear Riding Bunny That's Not Understanding The Dog's Orders, or my favourite Half Fox With Crowned Human Skull Head

Dramas with the eldest again for again very low energy. Applied texture paste around the feet of these nerds to hide the pudding bases, among others.

I'm still not sure if this should be a #Mordheim warband or a #BloodBowl team.

Bunch of miniature models on 25 millimeter bases covered with Vallejo beach sand texture. Not the models but the bases are covered in the texture of course. The models depict a wide range of things that occurred in medieval manuscripts as marginalia. There is a dragon wearing a bowler hat because that is what you get. There is a demon with a face on his stomach and another very hairy one with horns and bird claws all over the place. There are plenty of snails and dogs and bunnies involved in jousting.

I've done a lot of researche, especially for Snipette, to the extent that skipping through bad results or rapidly retrying different combinations to get something that works has become second nature to me—as has digging deeper into sites to get better links.

At least, I hope so. The alternative is that I'm imbibing and spewing that same misinformation too 🫢️

I found a copy of "101 Funny Things About Global Warming" by Sidney Harris & Colleagues at a Free Little Library. The collection of editorial cartoons is not especially funny, but I did appreciate the caricatures of politicians and public figures alongside their egregious quotations. (eg. Rush Limbaugh saying "despite the hysterics of a few pseudo-scientists, there is no reason to believe in global warming").

I was not expecting casual racism against Inuit. I went and made my own marginalia before I release this book at a Free Little Library somewhere.

Finally finished two rush projects and this allows me to continue on with the Marginalia Tarot Deck.

Today it's the Eight of Coins which is based on The Romance of the Rose. Français380.

It's a real learning experience on duplicating all these medieval painting styles digitally.
