Next in my 🇨🇦 Canadian series: la belle province. The symbols of Québec, its provincial bird, the snowy owl and its tree, the yellow birch cover the hand-carved map of #Québec in this #linocut. The block was inked 'à la poupée' (with different colours, Payne's gray, gold, black and yellow, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.

As described, The symbols of Québec, its provincial bird, the snowy owl and its tree, the yellow birch cover the hand-carved map of Québec in this linocut. The owl swoops across a stand of birch. The block was inked 'à la poupée' (with different colours, Payne's gray, gold, black and yellow, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper. Each print is 23.5 cm by 31.8 cm (9.25" by 12.5").

I had been hoping to see a snowy owl for years before I finally did. Of course, it was unexpected. We went out for a drive one day and stopped at a park at a marina in Whitby. The wind, water, and freezing temperatures had transformed the landscape. I was admiring Nature's work when I saw...was it...yes!!!!!!!! My first snowy owl in the wild. :)

A cold scene of ice and snow on a cloudy day. We are looking across partly frozen water to see a rock wall of a manmade breakwater that was first covered with ice then covered with snow. A sign on a metal pole looks like a work of art, as cold caused freezing rain and blowing water from crashing waves to freeze around it in fascinating patterns until we can only see the top of the pole. Atop the snow, to the right, we see a grey and white blip that blends in with the rest of the scene. It only catches our eye because it sitting on top of the snow, a silhouette against the grey sky.
