A little #beforeandafter comparison, demonstrating my editing style/aesthetic. This shot was in B&W from the get-go: on the left is a straight out of camera JPEG version (created in camera, I set RAW and JPEG creation in tandem) of it that served as a proof for viewing, on the right is the end result after making adjustments in #lightrooom and #photoshop (don't remember exactly what I did but it was minimal, including lifting shadow/dark tones a bit). Sometimes #lessismore as I tread a fine line between natural looking and vibrant w/photo editing. Model: Karina. Camera and lens info: #fujixt3 and #tamron1770mmf28. For this #monochromemonday post: Building 93 at the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center, a defunct New York State-run psychiatric hospital on the North Shore of Long Island that was open from 1885-1996. This particular building was a patient ward building, 13 stories tall, and built from 1939-1940, and opened to patients in 1941. It was vacated for good in 1992, a few years ahead of the complete closure of the hospital campus but by then, only the first four floors were actually being used. I recently visited the long abandoned train station in Siemensstadt, left to decay since relocations, a big ol' war, politics, declining patronage and finally a rail worker strike led to its closure in 1980.

The line was originally built by Siemens in the 1920s to get many of its 55,000 workers to its headquarters and factories, but WW2 saw much of it destroyed, while the post-war occupations and divisions resulted in the dismantling of various sections. Siemens also relocated its HQ to Munich in 1948, so even though the line was eventually restored, its usefulness never fully recovered.

In 2019, it was agreed that the line would be reopened, but I'm not sure how much progress has been made. (Hell, my kids' school in East Berlin was supposed to be renovated between 2018-2021 and they're still going today. Even accounting for covid, that's some crazy Aufbau Ost in action!
