The Ark continues to be a surprisingly durable entry into the genre of aspirational science fiction shows!
Season 3 is greenlit, to be released in 2026. Sounds like Dean Devlin has succeeded in convincing NBCUniversal that what’s come so far is really just the prequel.
Calling out to all those interested in watching/rewatching seasons 1 & 2.
Our @thearkchat is set up for chat, news and watch parties.
We’ve agreed on a Saturday watch party slot. Now that we know season 3 is a go, hopefully we can broaden the interest.

#TheArk is going to keep flying: Syfy has renewed the sci-fi space adventure drama for Season 3. https://tvline.com/news/the-ark-season-3-renewed-syfy-1235416312/
Bei #TheArk kommen so richtig Star Trek Vibes auf, besonders in Staffel 2.

Following the massive cliffhangers featured at the end of the Season 2 finale of #TheArk, many have been wondering if the series will return. Luckily, Dean Devlin (showrunner and creator) recently addressed the show's future in a hopeful way. https://thedirect.com/article/the-ark-season-3-release
Not sure there’s actually anything more to this than Dean Devlin making best efforts to keep up a positive buzz towards a potential 3rd season for ‘The Ark’ in genre media, but it’s nice to see a some coverage from the red carpet at the Saturn Awards nonetheless.
‘In an exclusive interview with The Direct's Russ Milheim on the red carpet of the 52nd Saturn Awards in Los Angeles, California, The Ark creator and showrunner Dean Devlin was asked if he could share any details about Season 3, specifically about a renewal.
While Devlin's response was short, it will still give fans hope, as he simply replied, "Stay tuned."’
Love having your review!
Season 2 was announced last April so we wouldn’t expect an announcement for season 3 before then this year.
The show has good GenZ audience numbers on Syfy in the US. It dropped a bit in numbers in season 2 but still better than other Syfy shows that have been renewed.
It has a lot of potential to grow with Millennial, GenX and older fans of #StarTrek and #Stargate in my view. I would hope they’d give it enough time as you did to see what a great show it’s developing into.
Unfortunately, our group chat doesn’t have the ability to automatically boost from the hashtag (at least not yet). So I’m tagging to get it out there.
But it does have reach beyond Mastodon which makes it more inclusive than other options.
Great to hear you discovered it!
Hope you’ll both consider joining/following the new @thearkchat group we’ve set up to support chat, sharing news and watch/rewatch parties.
We’re presently planning to start running biweekly Saturday afternoon watch parties so that people in Europe, across North America and even Australia can join in.

Looking to hear from others. (Perhaps I am being overly ambitious?)
Realizing that we’ll need to work around North America moving to summer time earlier than the EU but that might be good. Anyone in Asia or Australia would be watching early Sunday.
A base schedule when the North Hemisphere is on standard and Southern on daylight time would look like this…(if I have it right)
- Germany, Berlin UTC+1 9:00 pm / 2100h
- UK, London UTC+0 8:00 pm /2000h
- Brazil, Rio. UTC-3 5:00 pm / 1700h
- Canada, Toronto UTC-5 3:00 pm / 1500h
- USA, NY. UTC-5 3:00 pm / 1500h
- Canada, Winnipeg UTC-6 2:00pm/1400h
- USA, Chicago. UTC-6 2:00pm/1400h
- Canada, Edmonton UTC-7 1:00pm/1300h
- USA, Boulder. UTC-7 1:00 pm/1300h
- Canada, Vancouver UTC-8 noon/1200h
- USA, LA. UTC-8 noon/1200h
- Japan, Tokyo UTC+9 5:00am/0500h
- Aus., Sydney. UTC+11 7:00am/0700h
Glad you hung in with ‘The Ark’!
In my view season two is even better. I really wish they’d replaced that 1990s quality CGI title sequence, but we can still hope for it in a third season.
It’s interesting how streaming has made us so insistent that shows reach a certain peak in quality right out of the gate. It’s encouraging fast decisions on cancellations it seems and is getting in the way of experimentation and of new shows finding their audiences.
There’s a truism that after TOS, all new Star Trek shows need a couple of seasons to truly find their voice and quality. It’s said of other shows too. So when sci-fi television fans say they want older style shows, I feel we need to challenge them to hold their powder on criticism and them at least as many episodes as they gave the older shows to find their quality.
[I never realized how bad most of the first two seasons or The Next Generation are until I was curating a group of episodes to introduce our kids once they’d worked through TAS in primary school. (6 episodes out of 26 was my set for season one.)]
Anyhow, hope you’ll join our @thearkchat and rewatch parties yet to come, likely after the February sweeps cluster of new releases.
Glad to hear that the two of you are enjoying ‘The Ark’ nonetheless.
I’m of the view that those who are saying they’re looking for a return to aspirational 70/80s/90s sci-fi, and don’t care if there’s low production values, should consider this show an alternative model to what they’re critiquing on the streamers.
Its unrepentantly low production values and optimism won me and others over. And there turns out to be a large and vocal Gen Z following that got the renewal for season two. Don’t expect news on season three before April’s presentations to advertisers but it was still pulling relatively well in a target demographic.
Anyhow, I find ‘The Ark’ so much fun that I have set up a group chat bot to support sharing news, chat, watch/rewatch parties.
Hope you’ll join in! This seems like a show that will be most enjoyable in a watch party.

It was still fun though. Dean Devlin has a knack for making awful/trashy sci-fi that one enjoys in the moment nonetheless.
The Ark television show, now with two complete seasons, definitely fits that mould. Fortunately, it delivers messaging that’s much more aspirational and Star Trek-like. Which is why I have been a booster for it here.
Some of the worst CGI pixelated ship models since B5. The title sequence looks like it was made in another century. The production design is aggressively dreary to the point you can believe the ships were thrown together from printed pieces in a rush. But the show overcomes that in its own weird way.
