Direct language doesn't mean being rude, unprofessional, or "bad." (So let's stop the little drama in our minds that tells us that.)
Why is being direct great?
Because it is clear.
It's straightforward and easy to understand.
For example, I emailed a client:
"We need to set a deadline for this project. What do you recommend? I don't want to rush you, yet we also don't want the project to linger too long. The sooner we complete it, the sooner it begins producing results."
Breakdown:
"We need..." = We're in this together.
"What do you recommend?" = I recognize you have a schedule and priorities, and I want you to make a decision and communicate it.
"I don't want to rush you..." = We're busy humans, and still, let's finish this.
"... begins producing results." = This is what the client ultimately wants, so it ends on the client's desire, which is getting those results (which usually is visibility, clicks, conversions, new clients, etc).
If you're a service provider, even if you get paid upfront (like me), the goal is to complete the project. That's why you get paid.
Don't hide behind language.
Yes, we can be tactful and professional. We can adjust our language for sensitive situations.
Yet for day-to-day operations, be direct.
Let's get things done, achieve great results, and move on to the next exciting challenge.

What an interesting statement: by Mani Doraisamy
"The Era of Solopreneurs is Here"
"An engineer with AI tool can now outbuild a 100-person engineering team."
Whilst the #opportunities of using #AI are great, the #downside is that not #everyone will be able to #succeed as a #solopreneur
That is where #UBI comes in: it provides a safety net for those who need more time to adjust to the new world.

"Why are you working for free?!" That's what I want to say. So, what's all this about?
One of my clients is working with a graphic designer. I see the exchanged messages.
Today, the designer wrote this:
"If I'm in the process of learning or understanding something, I won't keep track of time. However, once I start building and designing again, I'll resume time tracking."
NOT OK.
"Learning" something in this context is part of the service the designer provides.
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.
Let's break this down some.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲:
1. You do not get paid.
(Even if you love your work, when you boil it down, work is a transaction of your time and expertise for money.)
2. You do not accurately know how long the project took once you finish.
3. The client does not accurately know how long the project took once the designer finishes, so the client has no correct reference point in case they want to get a similar project from another designer.
("The first designer only took 3 hours. Why did it take you 6.5?"
4. You devalue your time and expertise.
Service providers: Charge for your time.
Marketing Pet Peeve: "Secret Sauce". Is that phrase way overused, or is it just me?
I am making an #app that tracks, analyses and projects developer's revenue for apps on AppStore, Play Store, AdMob and RevenueCat, inspired by hashtag #solopreneur guys. Apple is asking me to remove all mentions of Android / Google Play Store, including the logo (they are fine with AdMob though). I have a Voldemort problem: to mention Android without saying its name! Any ideas appreciated!
Ideas so far:
- "The Other One"
- "Green Humanoid Robot Store"
- "The Unmentionable One"

Seasons change in business. How are you changing with them? Just like how Halloween and its spooky vibes will soon be trampled over by Mariah Carey’s Christmas jam, solopreneurship requires you to shift and adjust as well.
This can be simple.
𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻?
Seasons are marked by distinct characteristics. You may be in a heavy lead generation season, a heavy delegation season, or a season of adding a new service. There’s no right or wrong length to these seasons—you’ve got to do what works best for you.
𝟮. 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 "𝗵𝗮𝘁" 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻?
(Hat = Role)
When you identify which season you're in, choose your hat (or hats) wisely. Be okay with letting non-essentials slide.
As a solopreneur, you wear many hats—from marketer and strategist to customer service guru and fur baby herder.
So, as we gear up for the holidays (holi-DAZE?) and the buzz, embrace the business season you’re in!
Know your season.
Put on the right hat for the season each morning.
And let your personal power rip and shine brighter than Mariah Carey’s high notes!
Well, not that bright. Just do your best. ;)
Miscommunication and confusion in business costs you.
Know who you're speaking to.
Speak to them. Write for them.
Who are you speaking to in your business?
Alert: Here's a LinkedIn setting you might want to change.
In it, LinkedIn asks this: "Can LinkedIn and its affiliates use your personal data and content you create on LinkedIn to train generative AI models that create content?"
LinkedIn states: "This setting controls the training of generative AI models used to create content. When this setting is on LinkedIn and its affiliates may use your personal data and content you create on LinkedIn for that purpose."
Some clients and students report that this setting was set to YES, while a few have said it was already set to NO. Regardless, you must check your settings to know.
Changing this setting is fast and easy.
Go to:
1. Settings
2. Data privacy
3. Data for Generative AI Improvement
If it’s ON, turn it OFF (if you choose to do so).
