#Transport for #London (TfL) will begin construction on a major scheme to improve A23 #Streatham Hill this summer. In partnership with #Lambeth Council, the project will introduce new pedestrian crossings, protected cycling lanes, and enhanced bus lanes. The work, scheduled for completion by spring 2027, aims to improve safety, reduce traffic-related injuries, and provide safer travel for pedestrians and cyclists. Bus services will benefit from less congestion and continuous bus lanes. Temporary road closures and access changes will be implemented, but #TfL is working to minimise disruption. Public spaces will also be improved with new trees and sustainable drainage. A dedicated travel advice page will be launched to assist local residents and businesses during construction.

From 6 April 2025, the #Santander Cycles Day Pass ride time will double from 30 minutes to an hour, priced at £3.50, offering better value for money. Single e-bike rides will also be cheaper, reduced from £3.30 to £3. These changes are part of TfL’s effort to make cycling more accessible and affordable for Londoners and tourists, supporting greener travel options. The Day Pass allows unlimited one-hour rides in 24 hours. E-bike popularity has surged, and these price reductions aim to encourage even more use. #TfL is also expanding its e-bike fleet to over 2,000 bikes and freezing subscription rates. New docking stations will be added to improve accessibility. These changes align with the Mayor's vision to promote #cycling and enhance sustainable #transport in #London.

This does not surprise me. Poor battery quality seems to plague e-bikes with after market kits (and others). BUT there is a failure in relation of the sellers - Amazon and Ebay sell this risky shit all the time with no come back. Maybe they should be forced to take responsibility - and that includes criminal liability.

The Guardian · TfL bans most e-bikes on trains amid concern over igniting batteriesBy Gwyn Topham

Transport for London caves to #ASLEF pressure and BANS non-folding electric bikes on any tube services, Overground, Elizabeth Line and DLR services.

There is so much to unpack here, but again the reputable bike shop standard electric bike is thrown under the bus down to issues entirely unrelated. Conversion kits that do not meet standards do not automatically make an e-bike!

Cycling Electric · TfL bow to pressure in knee-jerk ban on non-folding e-bikesTransport for London (TfL) has taken the eyebrow-raising step to ban all e-bikes, aside from electric folding models, on most

#Transport for #London (#TfL) has announced a ban on non-folded e-bikes across its transport network, effective 31 March 2025, following safety concerns. While most #ebikes are safe, there have been incidents where non-folding e-bikes caught fire on the network. The ban will apply to the #Tube, #Overground, Elizabeth Line, and #DLR, but foldable e-bikes will still be allowed. TfL’s review, in collaboration with the London Fire Brigade, found that conversion kits for standard cycles pose a higher fire risk. Non-folding e-bikes are already banned on buses and trams. Exceptions include the Woolwich Ferry, river services, and certain coach services. TfL is working with the government to improve e-bike safety. Customers not complying with the ban may face fines up to £1000. TfL is the first #UK operator to enforce such a ban.

#Transport for #London (#TfL) is inviting bidders to provide a long-term support service for victims of serious road traffic collisions in London, following the success of a 2023 pilot project with MOPAC, the Met Police, and City of London Police. The service aims to offer enhanced support to those affected by fatal or life-changing injuries from road traffic accidents. Over 200 people have been referred to the pilot service, which provides direct, timely, and face-to-face support. TfL plans to continue the service beyond October 2025, with a 3.5-year contract and a 2-year extension option. This initiative complements the Sarah Hope Line and supports TfL's Vision Zero goal to eliminate road deaths and injuries. TfL’s other safety efforts include lowering speed limits, safer junctions, and advanced bus safety standards. The service aligns with broader efforts to reduce road danger and improve safety in London.

To celebrate World Poetry Day, #Transport for #London (TfL) is showcasing winning #poems from West London College's 'Student with Voices' competition at seven stations on the District line. The competition involved 40 schools across #Ealing and #Hammersmith and #Fulham, with over 130 students submitting poems on themes like wellbeing, mental health, and the arts. Poems were judged by published #poets Kavita Hansla and Alex Murdock. #TfL has long supported public arts, with the 'Poems on the Underground' initiative inspiring commuters for nearly 40 years. This celebration follows recent St. Patrick’s Day #poetry recordings at Charing Cross and Covent Garden. TfL hopes the 'Student with Voices' collaboration will inspire future poets for the iconic poetry series. Excerpts from the winning poems will be displayed at stations including Acton Town, Ealing Broadway, and Hammersmith.
