#Witkoff and #Trump’s Gaza dream has one thing missing: Palestinians”

by David Hearst in Middle East Eye

@palestine
@israel

“In Witkoff’s portrayal, there is no #Palestinian claim to the land or Palestinian national rights. No #settlers are turfing them out of their homes in the occupied #WestBank. Thirteen settlements have not just been announced there. There are no Palestinians in Israel, either. It’s all about #Hamas and Gaza”

"Mohammed Mansour, an Asahi Shimbun correspondent, was killed in an Israeli missile attack at his home in Gaza on March 24"
"...Mansour sent interview notes and video footage to the Jerusalem bureau chief, Jun Takaku"
"When Takaku told Mansour not to go anywhere dangerous, the correspondent laughed and said that even hospitals were being attacked, so he did not know of any place that was not in danger"
"Mansour is the 207th journalist killed in Gaza"

#AntiEmpireProject | The anti-genocide focus

"The genocidals have indeed created a world system of legal impotence and racist indifference to their use of unlimited violence. Everything is permitted to them. They repeat lies that even they don’t believe as a way to signal their affiliation to one another, and to show us that they can say and do what they want and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s incorrect to believe them."

Democracy Now!“Do Not Let the World Look Away”: Israel Kills 2 More Journalists, Incl. Al Jazeera’s Hossam ShabatIsrael’s renewed all-out massacre of Palestinians in Gaza is continuing into its second week, with at least 23 people killed before dawn today, including seven children. On Monday, an Israeli strike on Beit Lahia killed the noted Al Jazeera journalist Hossam Shabat. This is Shabat’s colleague Mahmoud Abu Salameh. Mahmoud Abu Salameh: “We heard the sound of the explosion near the Indonesian Hospital. We rushed immediately at the moment of targeting. At the moment we heard the sound of this explosion, we headed to the place and saw the targeting of our colleague, journalist Hossam Shabat. We were shocked by the scene. This is our colleague Hossam’s car, and this is his blood.” A letter by Hossam Shabat, posted by his team after his killing Monday, reads in part, “For the past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury.” Shabat added, “I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza. Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free.” Later in the broadcast, we’ll speak to another of Hossam Shabat’s colleagues, Drop Site News editor Sharif Abdel Kouddous. Separately on Monday, another journalist, Palestine Today correspondent Mohammed Mansour, was killed in an airstrike north of Khan Younis.

The sad thing about #Australia is that in the upcoming federal election this will not be the election issue it should be.

"In defiance of international rulings to boycott Israel for its ongoing violence and brutal occupation of Palestinian lands, Australia’s exports to Israel have increased by 20% in 12 months."

Frontline and ProPublica have just released their in-depth investigation into Terrorgram. It's really well done and gets into both the background of how Terrorgram came to be in the first place and how its organizers groomed the teenager who eventually shot three people outside a queer bar in Bratislava, killing two of them. I recommend it for anyone who's interested in all of that. There are lots of details and illuminating observations throughout.

One warning, though: there is some rather violent footage early on, particularly from Unite the Right. I'm specifically kind of pissed that people *still* insist on showing the footage of the car attack, and without even any run-up -- just cutting straight to that moment, as though the world doesn't already know what happened, as though there were no living people whose lives were completely fucked up that day and may really suffer for seeing that yet again.

If that's an issue for you, maybe skip from around 7:00-8:10, and particularly right around the 8:00 mark. You won't be missing anything of value.

“We, the Prisoners in #Gaza, want to tell you about our situation. We want you to know that #Hamas did not ask us to say this. That this video clip is not intended for psychological warfare. We are the ones who asked and begged to be heard. Please hear our voice,” Yosef-Haim Ohana said.

“Enough with this government silencing our voices. Give them a chance to speak and express their opinions,” Bohbot said, referring to former captives released in a prisoner exchange deal during the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.

“Stop silencing their voices. Let them speak. Let the truth come out.”

The two said that former captives “who have left here should be allowed and be granted the right to speak,” asking “why is everyone being silenced?”

A Plea to a Former Captive

The two addressed Ohad, a former captive who was released on February 8, 2025, as part of the ceasefire agreement.

“Ohad, why don’t you tell them? You were with us. You were sitting with us. Speak for us. Explain to everyone what we’ve been going through… You know how much suffering we’re going through here. You know how it was during the deal and during the war. Tell them, Ohad… Tell them, Ohad.”

‘As my baby slept peacefully next to me, I saw images of Palestinian babies, their feet poking out of the rubble.’

Over 792 Palestinians have been killed since Israel resumed air strikes on Gaza on 18 March, ending a ceasefire with Hamas that had lasted almost two months.
