LINNEA'S GARDEN
"LOOKING"

Looking
from Fashion Show by Linnea's Garden

redonredlinneasgarden.bandcamp

"Looking" (digital, Red on Red, 2022), an excellent track, was released in advance of its album, "Fashion Show." I bought "Looking" after hearing it the first time. My usual suggestion, in a "name your price" situation such as this, is to pay what you regularly pay for digital downloads.

In addition to Linnea Herzog, high marks go to Amy Galaviz on bass. I haven't heard the status of Red on Red Records since the death of its proprietor, Justine Covault.

A friend told me just today, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, that Greg LoPiccolo of the Boston rock band Tribe lives not a great distance from where I am, Brattleboro, Vermont. This brought back a lot of memories. I have also been a fan of one of the siblings, Carlene Barous who was in the Boston band, Din, with another Tribe sibling, Bart LoPiccolo.

Here is a link to a piece about Tribe:

This "Cellars by Starlight" column by Brett Milano includes an article about Din.

bostonphoenix.com/boston/music

The column leads with an article about the Boston band, Apollo Sunshine.

A little hard to read, but here is a Din notice written by the legendary Cowboy Mach Bell for Boston Groupie News.

bostongroupienews.com/CDPastTw
(Scroll down a short way)

Mach Bell, a writer I admire, was the featured vocalist in one lineup of the Joe Perry Project.

Here is another from Mach Bell and BGN.

(Scroll like crazy)

While doing my own scrolling, I noticed that this CD Review feature includes a disc by Willie Alexander and the Boom Boom Band. One of its tracks, the eerie "Gravelly Hill," has attracted a great deal of attention. It may not make you forget "Mass. Ave;" but then again, what would. Why not give "Gravelly Hill" a spin.

The Modern Lovers - Topic

Jonathan Richman wrote four songs that are standards for many alternative rock bands. In possible order of frequency played, they are 1) "Road Runner," 2) "Pablo Picasso," 3) "She Cracked," and 4) "Astral Plane." "I Wanna Sleep in Your Arms," too, is an early Modern Lovers classic.

FUZZY
The Band

If you are a Fuzzy fan, it may be of interest that Hilken and Winston of the band have a show coming up Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Lilypad in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Also featured is Buttercup, reunited.

Fuzzy went very far in the biz, peaking, perhaps, with the hit single, "Flashlight"; and Hilken Mancini went on to other successes, such as Punk Rock Aerobics.

Chris Toppin was in the Ex-Girlfriends and was or is in Love Love with Jefferson Davis.

Digital downloads of the "Fuzzy EP" are available at the Bandcamp site, posted by the original label, Half a Cow Records.

The Music Museum of New England (MMone) does not have a Fuzzy article ..... yet. It is a substantial operation and likely a Fuzzy article will be on the way.

To get a lot of information about Hilken Mancini and Fuzzy, run this Google search precisely as I am writing it here:

Boston Groupie News is a major source.

The current issue of BGN has a feature on Matt Burns who has died.

Wikipedia has a Fuzzy page that is a little hard to find. Here is a direct link.

Boston Groupie News (BGN)

bostongroupienews.com/

In the field of Boston popular music and New England popular music, the excellent Boston Groupie News is about as venerable as it gets. When mailings quote Boston Groupie News or one of its writers, I always zoom right in and give it a close reading. BGN is something of an expert online punk rock library and a great one at that.
