Volcanic Activity Beneath Yellowstone's Massive Caldera Could Be on The Move
Volcanic activity bubbling away beneath the Yellowstone National Park in the US appears to be on the move.
New research shows that the reservoirs of magma that fuel the supervolcano's wild outbursts seem to be shifting to the northeast of the Yellowstone Caldera. This region could be the new locus of future volcanic activity, according to a team led by seismologist Ninfa Bennington of the US Geological Survey.

Thousands of #earthquakes, including one that drove 1,500 people into temporary shelter,
are sending shock waves of fear through coastal communities.
Residents are now keeping #emergency #bags packed,
preparing for larger quakes, or worse,
an eruption some experts fear could prove devastating.
Nearly 80,000 people blithely inhabit the #sulfureous #caldera, playing soccer in the streets and cooking rich ragus in apartments with majestic views of Capri and Ischia, the emerald isles across the Gulf of Naples.
In total, an estimated 485,000 people live in the designated danger zone of a smoke-belching behemoth the ancient Romans thought was an entrance to Hell.
The most pessimistic experts signal it may even be time to consider relocating,
presenting residents with a stark choice:
Should they stay or should they go?

Another lichen photo from the McDermott caldera. There are several lichem species on this rhyolite Boulder, not all of which I can identify. What I have so far are Gold Cobblestone lichen (the bright yellow one, Pleopsidium flavium), Soil Paint lichen (the green bubbles, Acarospora ocellata), and a Toninia species (the brown clumps). There is at least 2 more species. What a rock!
