Apparently the week-long Amazon boycott had no effect on the company whatsoever. I'm not surprised because I've known for a while there is no way to practice conscious capitalism. The only paths are either to continue trudging in the ruts they've chained us in, or break the chains, slaughter the slave drivers, and burn the whole death ship to cinders and ash.

The oligarchs are too entrenched, too wealthy, and too smug to defeat by simply not opening our wallets for a week.

Capitalism can't be brought to heel or redeemed. It has to be destroyed.

Graphs in this post are extremely interesting about the separation of #Germany. Post is from 11 years ago.

The Berlin Wall fell 25 years ago, but Germany is still divided

"After the fall of the #Berlin Wall, formerly communist eastern German companies and factories suddenly had to compete with their much more efficient western counterparts. #Capitalism came too fast. Many eastern German companies went bankrupt and some regions never recovered from the shock. Until today, income levels are much lower in the east than in the west."
"Why did right-wing politicians prosper in the once-communist east. The explanation is complex, but scientists often attribute it to a mixture of anti-leftist worldviews after the wall fell and the economic downturn in the east. Many people were disillusioned by Western capitalism, but few wanted a return to #communism. Right-wing politicians were quick to fill the void. "

Agh. Just got shivved for a day of data roaming (which used to cost $8 per day and now, for some reason, most likely "pure greed", costs $16 per day)

Knowing I already had roaming enabled, I left the phone in airplane mode after getting off the plane because I knew, as soon as the phone connected to the phone network, I would get dinged whether I use it or not

So I just spent a little time trying to work out how I could disable data roaming without accidentally incurring a cost given that all the mobile network settings are disabled while in airplane mode

I tried asking a couple of search engines, but all the answers were useless, even the few seemingly sincere results I found amidst the reams of ad-driven generative model garbage (please reserve a few thoughts and prayers for the poor SEO con-artists currently being driven into remission by robots)

Then I realized I had a physical and therefore removable SIM, so I took it out. This let me turn off airplane mode and also to access more mobile network settings, yay. Unfortunately the "data roaming" setting lives with the SIM settings so by removing the SIM, I couldn't change that setting, boo

Brainwave. I found a "data saving" feature that allowed me to disable all apps from using any mobile networks, yay

Unfortunately, while the "data" in "data roaming" refers to all functions of the phone including calls and SMS, the "data" in "data saving" refers to everything except calls and SMS. So the moment I plugged the SIM back in, I got a message from the bastards at Telus to tell me what a pleasure it was to gouge me yet again

So I'm going to switch off Wi-Fi for the rest of the day, max my data plan and then take out the SIM for the rest of my vacation

What's (sadly) ironic about the US wildfires, is that some have been due to the myopic wisdom of unrestrained #Capitalism.

US Electricity companies choose not to insulate their pylons, because of the extra cost (ergo reduced profits, ergo grumpy shareholders). LA was a good example.. it's starting from a pylon clearly caught on video. The utter destruction, completely avoidable, if only there was a *regulation* obliging electricity companies to insulate their pylons.

This is absolutely the richest of rich! While #Trump and his #authoritarian and #racist crownies are mass-deporting tens of thousands of racialised people considered illegal immigrants, he is simultaneously wide-opening the doors to anyone capable of paying millions of dollars for a fast-track path to citizenship or for the 'poor', 'poor', white Africaaners who feel racially discriminated against in South Africa. This is pure white #capitalism and #supremacism.

I really want to celebrate the 330 billion valuation loss that Tesla took. But I can't because it's not just Elon Musk that got hit. All of the working class that had their 401K plans invested in Tesla also took a large hit that hurt them even more. Therefore, I cannot celebrate. This is why #capitalism is a failure. Only the wealthy survive.

People be like "under communism you'll own nothing and you'll like it" then capitalism is like "Your games are a service, we are phasing out physical media, your apps are subscription based, we'll remove your digital media whenever we want, and good luck ever owning a home lol." #capitalism #communism

We're talking about the company controlled by a guy who sent money to Trump, changed the Washington Post into Republican propaganda.

You sure you want him to record what you say in private?

You've got me wrong. I'm not against voting, only against voting for Democrats. Parliamentary efforts are a useful tool that working people can use to promote revolutionary change. Even the Bolsheviks did this in the Duma after the February Revolution, which, combined with their non-parliamentary efforts, led to a successful revolution against the capitalist provisional government. Workers in America should definitely vote for actual leftist parties.
