Otesánek is a log in a Czech fairy tale that is adopted by a childless couple. The log becomes alive, and the parents are unable to keep their new son fed. Eventually, the growing Otesánek develops a taste for human flesh. Czech director Jan Švankmajer adapted it into a movie.

#History: It's hard not to think back to #1930s when hearing of #Trump's treatment of #Ukraine. Before #WW2, #Czechoslovakia built 10K #bunkers to prepare for #nazi assault, and never got a chance to use them, because a similar kind of treacherous "#diplomacy" in the West made them give all that up to the enemy in '38 - after that, Europe was ripe for taking. #neveragain

@MAKS23 History is repeating. When diplomats and politicians were afriad to make a costly decision, they decided to #appease Hilter and let him take over #Czechoslovakia.
In our time, the best time with cheapest cost to stop #Putin would have been defeating Russian's army in the 2008 Russo-Georgian War. The next best is now.

Alf Dubs is one of the few people with personal memory of those days. He came to #england on the #kindertransport from #czechoslovakia . He represented #battersea in the #houseofcommons in the 1980s. I worked with him politically a few times. A good man!

Representatives of #Czechoslovakia were made to wait outside while the 1938 #Münich Conference took place between #France , #Germany , #Italy and the #uk . The terms of the deal were dictated to them and they had to comply. Less than six months later #Germany occupied Prague and proclaimed a protectorate of #bohemia and #moravia while #slovakia became a notionally independent satellite state. War in #europe came later that year!
