Dr. Rosanne Welch Interview, Screenwriting Research Network Conversations [Video]

I sat down for an interview about my time as Chair of the Screenwriting Research Network during our last conference in Olumouc, Czech Republic, last September.

I had the chance to discuss the conference we held at Stephens College the year before, how we chose the theme, and the benefit of being a smaller group where real connections have been made. This is part of a series of oral histories on past created by the Executive Council which have morphed into these “Conversations”recorded by EC member Lucian Georgescu (with Camera and editing by Marius Donici).

À propos du fonds enregistré par le sociologue Faouzi AdelL’article présente le fonds sonore Faouzi Adel enregistré dans le cadre d’une thèse d’Etat soutenue en 1990 sous le titre Formation du lien conjugal et nouveaux modèles familiaux en Algérie. Il représente 240 heures qui donnent à entendre les voix de 116 personnes dont 22 forment une sous-population de 11 couples, 70 hommes et 46 femmes. Le terrain s’est déroulé principalement sur 8 mois, de mars 1986 à octobre 1987 ; et une petite vingtaine d’entretiens a été réalisée entre janvier et mars 1988. Les lieux d’enregistrements sont assez circoncis : Constantine (49) et Sétif (34), Biskra (10), Annaba (2), Tizi-Ouzou (2), Batna (1), Aïn Zaatout dans les Aurès (1), Souk Ahras (1) et Bejaia (1). Faouzi Adel s’est entretenu avec ses témoins principalement en arabe dialectal (70) ou en arabe standard (8), certains sont mâtinés de français ou entièrement en français (38) et quatre partiellement en langue berbère. Les entretiens sont longs : les plus courts durent une heure, le plus long six heures et tous les enregistrements sont sur cassette audio qui ont été numérisées à la Médiathèque de la MMSH. Les hommes, nés entre 1939 et 1955, sont principalement des cadres supérieurs – en particulier des enseignants universitaires comme lui –, mais aussi agriculteurs, techniciens ou ouvriers de l’industrie (Sonatrach ou Eriad). Le profil des informatrices est plus diversifié, nées entre les années 1930 et 1960, elles sont femmes au foyer, retraitées, ouvrières, secrétaires ou enseignantes. Pour des raisons juridiques et éthiques, les fichiers sonores ne peuvent être accessibles en ligne, mais sur demande motivée dans le cadre d’un projet de recherche et dans l’engagement du respect des témoins, il peut être écouté sur le site de la Médiathèque de la MMSH, à Aix-en-Provence. Tous ces destins réunis dans le « Fonds Faouzi Adel » représentent aujourd’hui un patrimoine scientifique, historique et culturel inestimable. Porteur de nouvelles recherches, il est susceptible d’intéresser les anthropologues, les sociologues, les historiens, les politistes ou les linguistes dont les recherches portent sur l’Algérie ou sur la famille. Solidarity memory work is the application of these practices in explicit solidarity with movements and causes. As our society confronts contemporary civil rights struggles, solidarity memory work is quickly solidifying as a central site of documenting, sharing and preserving the stories of those on the front line. In this class, participants will explore the unique position of memory workers within the broader landscape of political organizing work.
