Napa Morning

I love driving up into the Napa Valley in the late fall and early spring during the early morning. The weather is cooler and the roads are less crowded. On top of that the sun is lower in the sky and seems to create excellent lighting of the vineyards.
I found this scene in the northern part of the Napa Valley just south of Calistoga.

Napa Morning This is an image of a vineyard and old out building/barn located just south of Calistoga in the beautiful Napa Valley. The image foreground consists of several rows of grapevines that run towards the back of the image to some valley oaks and the hillside behind them. The rows of vines are separated by tall unmown grass. The outbuilding has exposed wood and a corrugated tin roof. The sun is low in the sky off to the right and is shinning on the front side of the barn. The side of the barn has a few old tools and steel barrel, the use of the barrel is unknown.

The workshop I built for my wife after the first lockdown, mainly to stop her from taking over mine(!)

I’d always been intrigued by the idea of stitching a shed and greenhouse together, so knocked this up. The idea is that the greenhouse captures solar heat in the winter to help heat the workshop - it seems to work, and the shed is very heavily insulated with polystyrene collected off the local beach over a summer and put through a garden shredder.

With a small radiator, the temperature gets up to about 22C very quickly, even with outside temperatures around zero. When they’re about 8-10C and upwards, no heating required.

Built mainly out of free stuff (greenhouse, roof tiles, much of the frame, insulation, copper ridge, windows, door).

Please ignore the oil tank. We inherited it and can’t afford to change systems.

Underneath, on the left, is a rack system containing pieces of coloured glass. In the middle of the bench, two clamps are attached to a block of wood. On the back wall is a window, with a red frame. A chair is parked in the middle. Mostly, it’s a good, chaotic mess.

It’s a wooden wall, with patchwork panels oriented vertically and in the middle, a duck egg blue door, half-glazed. A slabbed path runs up the middle, with growing beds of soil on either side. Plastic pots and other detritus are scattered around.

Die Geschichte stammt aus China und erzählt von einem alten Maler, der den Freunden sein neuestes Bild zu sehen gab. Ein Park war darauf dargestellt, ein schmaler Weg am Wasser und durch einen Baumschlag hin, der lief vor einer kleinen Tür aus, die hinten in ein Häuschen Einlass bot. Wie sich die Freunde aber nach dem Maler umsahen, war der fort und in dem Bild. Da wandelte er auf dem schmalen Weg zur Tür, stand vor ihr still, kehrte sich um, lächelte und verschwand im Spalt.
