"While kids in most parts of Japan are obsessed with Pokémon cards — or perhaps the franchise’s latest smartphone game, Pokémon TCG Pocket — the children of Kawara are clutching to something a little closer to home. They are playing a trading card game (TCG) where the stars aren’t fantasy creatures, anime heroes or even famous baseball players, but ojisan (middle-aged or older men) from the local community of Saidosho."

I listened to Jon Stewart interview Michael Lewis about his new book the other day.

In the book, it extolls the amazing government workers who are currently demonized by the right wing media. It's yet another reason to be angry about DOGE and the cuts.

Then I saw this story about how they made these trading cards in Japan.

... and it occurred to me that someone should make a trading card game for all the government workers in the US. The "faceless bureaucrats" who do the thankless hard work and never get any real recognition. It might help humanize government workers to a public which apparently has no idea what government does.

I, for one, would love a Arthur A. Allen trading card.

I'm a bit fuzzy on what a good game mechanic would be in order to highlight things like engineering acumen or systems design. Guess I'll leave that to a game designer.

Apparently, it's Trading Cards for Adults Day. No, I don’t know who comes up with these things either.

The first cards I remember collecting appeared in shops in 1966. These were The Riddler's Riddle, featuring scenes from the Batman TV series and movie. A delightful set of 38 cards, each with—as the name suggests—a riddle to solve on the back.

One of my earliest memories is of opening a packet and discovering the cards inside were in Dutch.

Someone on TikTok was talking about a Pokemon vending machine and I noticed they were at one of the grocery stores I go to in town. I was so stoked! I finally got to go today! A lot of stuff was sold out, but they had a selection of single packs. They were cheaper than buying them from a store too! I will be using this vending machine a lot.

The Clash of the Capybaras All-Stars Kickstarter has already been fully funded and in less that six hours! Now it's all the bonus stretch goals from here. The lowest reward is the full set of cards that include my three designs, which comes out to about to $30 Canadian plus shipping. Get in early on ordering your own set!
